What's the star in your garden right now

Posted: 14/06/2014 at 12:38

This is a flower garden I started last year for my two girls. I love the cottage style look. Can't believe how well it has done in a year!

 Oryla looking fantastic here.

Why is it that you plant these somewhere else and the slugs devour them?!

Penstemon sour grapes with sambuscus and a massive hebe. It will look even better soon.

Can't really tell in this photo but the scabious look brilliant swaying in the wind with osteospurmum underneath.

Love your salvia fidgetbones,I think it would look good in my first photo or next to the scabious.

English bluebell,Spanish bluebell, scilla is it me or are these plants confusing

I bought these last autumn and they were labelled English bluebells,I think that they aren't.

This plant arches over, but I think it's the wrong colour.

And these I think are neither English or Spanish.

Any ideas?

Are there other plants that cause so much confusion?

I will try and take some more photos as these plants are all different but you can't tell with my shoddy photography.

With lots of hyacinthodes, hybridised bluebells, scilla and what ever else you want to call them out at the minute,is it me or is it confusing?

 Confused yet?

how long should i put astrantia seeds in the fridge before sowing?

Posted: 26/04/2014 at 19:51

I did have some outside but we haven't had a winter here. But the seeds might not be any good. I have some other seeds,so I thought I'd try this method.

I have never had any success growing astrantia from seed,so I am going to chill in the fridge first to trick those pesky seeds. Any advice would be great.

Thank you. I think I will keep and move when dormant.

I have a tree that has self seeded next to a big cherry tree and two buddlias. Should it stay or should it go?

Photographing the tulips

I plant my tulips using the lasagne method. There are hyacinths and crocuses mixed in too. These have been appreciated more this year as my wife was seriously ill and every time she looked out of the kitchen window it cheered her up.

I place tender perennials and annuals in the pots afterwards. November is busy but it is worth it.
