stopping my cats pooing and weeing on my flower beds

Posted: 15/03/2014 at 13:59

I think you need to chill fb. Don't you put pets into a protective environment for their benefit and yours? Birds have cages or avairies, rodents have cages, fish tanks, dogs have kennels and live indoors so why should cats not be treated like pets and revert to their natural instincts? Have you ever read how many millions of birds and animals are killed each year by outdoor cats? It is a lot. If micro pigs and rabbits can be house trained I am sure cats can too. I don't know why it is so socially unacceptable to walk cats but people do it. You could become the local eccentric.

I am not telling you what to do, or lecturing you I am just bringing this information to your attention.

My parents owned cats in the 80s and both went missing, either run over or used for coats,as I am led to believe there was a trend for this back then!?

My personal opinion and I know you didn't ask for it,is to keep them indoors and stimulate them with toys and play with them. Or get some fish as they can be left to their own devices with little or no consequence.

Flora that is the best question so far,but judging by the time you posted a few big glasses of wine must have been consumed

How about keeping them indoors? A lot of people have house cats with litter trays indoors,at least you will be able to train them and keep an eye on them.

I would like to ask him if he has any ideas for low maintenance, all year round plant pot displays for all aspects.

Don't get me wrong I love my tulips and crocuses at this time of year but it is a pain to empty, segregate and start over with the summer display. I recently purchased a big urn to brighten up a shady spot,I have some primulas, daffs and snowdrops in their at the moment. I think I will put a Japanese anemone and grass in here in summer, but once again I will have to swap. Am I being lazy or is there an easier way?

This next question isn't necessarily for Alan, but does anybody know how to get a plant named after someone without being the creative artist? My wife is ill and I think she would like it.

nerine bowdenii

Posted: 05/03/2014 at 14:37

Just bought myself some nerine bowdenii,in fact lots of,and was wondering how to get the best out of them. I have seen some flowering in gardens for a couple of months and I would love to recreate this.

What depth, soil conditions, position should they be planted in? I have seen some crowded with their necks out,but wouldn't this harm them as they are south African in origin?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Check out the bulbs on offer, two packs for £4. I got a few packs of nerine.

These would normally cost a lot more else where. Go on treat yourself.

Bargain much cheapness!

Seed swap

Around about now people will be starting to sow seeds and having a clear out of old seed packets or seeds of plants that they have lots of. So let's put them out there/here for people to pick and choose and swap.

By the way has anybody got any sanguisorbia? I revisited a GW show from last autumn and some of these look amazing.

Are they trees?

I don't think I have enough room or the patience for seed grown trees. Thanks anyway

Thank you for your replies. Happy new year to all.  Nut I think that was me. It's exciting  to see seedlings this time of year,I've got some hellebores coming up they might have been from you but I have had lots of seeds from lots of generous people last year so I can't keep track.

Has anybody got any seeds that I can sow now for cold germination,or any suggestions?

I have sown some cow parsley in September, should it have started to come up yet or will it be spring?

My soil is still bare and I was wondering if anybody else had some seeds as a contingency plan?
