Hi all, what sort of granular fertilizer should I use in the preparation of a small plot of ground I want to turf over. It will only need a small amount so I don`t want a great big bag or tub of the stuff, cheers, cresser.

State of Water in Water Butts

Hi Waterbutts, I`m sure your water is as pure as the ........... anyway!

The `unsmelly ` water does come off a flat felt garage roof and this is OK, the `smelly` stuff, comes of the house roof tiles, as does the next door neighbours, and they say their water is OK. I actually thought that - perhaps - it might just be the plastic butt itself? as I say, I do clean them both out, and more than once a year if they run out. If I had hair I`d pull it out - ouch. cresser.

State of Water in Water Butts

Hi, I have two waterbutts they are not connected to each other, and both are never in direct sunlight, however, the water in the smaller one of the two, stinks to high heaven after a couple of days, and it has to used quickly. I do clean them out every year and both have light proof lids on. I put charcoal pellets in both, and have used the Hozelock product, which does seem to help a bit, but I don`t really want to put chemicals in the water. Any other advice very welcome, cheers. cresser.

Hi all,

waterbutts hi, I have put them out in the past, but usually only in feeders, and most of the time I end up chucking them anyway. nutcutlet, & BobTheGardener, good advise both. I have in fact, now taken them up and got rid, and I am taking notice of the info so I don`t make the same mistake next year. Thankyou all for your help and advise, very much appreciated, cheers, cresser.

Hi Nutcutlet and Sara4, thanks for your replies. I`m afraid I cant recall exactly when I put the seeds in, but it was some months ago now. Sara4, I think it did look a bit like your picture, but again I`m not sure - sorry to both for being so vague. I must admit, I think the plant, whatever it may be, is quite ugly and to be honest I cant wiat to dig it up and get rid. I wont be buyin anymore of those mixed seed packets again, I will select certain plants next time. Cheers again both, cresser.

Hi again,

I have another unknown for the knowledgable out there. This also came up amongst the wild seed that I scattered around this patch. It has not flowered at all, and I was wondering if it was just a weed or if something might yet develop. It is the taller green plant in the middle

What is it?

Thanks again to everyone who has responded - I do appreciate it. The only thing about this plant is that, well, I cannot smell anything?? I `ve put my nose to it, and I`ve touched it, but I can`t smell out. On looking for other pictures of Oilseed Rape, a description said it grows to about 1` 8", but this one is about 4-5 foot. I`m puzzled a bit. cresser.
