Sandy patches on lawn

Posted: Today at 09:41

Hi all,

I have a couple of what looks like `Sandy` patches on my front lawn, I have been told they are made by worms but not being particularly green fingered, I don`t know. When I cut the lawn (never too short), the mower skims off the tops of them leaving unsightly scars. Is there anything I can do to try and stop this. Thankyou in advance of any advice.

Paul.

Sandy patches on lawn

Hi,

I have a couple of sandy patches showing on my front lawn, I have been told these are made by worms. When I mow the lawn the mower skims the top of the `sand` off and leaves an unsightly scar. Is there any way I can either cure this or at least, minimise the problem?.

Talkback: Birds: helping garden birds in spring

Hi,

We have had Great Tits nesting in one of two nestboxes I made, every year except one for the 11 years we have been at this house. We also have quite regular visits from a Sparrowhawk, in fact I got as close as two feet away from him when he was on our fence, before he dropped down into next doors garden - and then continued to stare me out from between the hedge!!. The G.T`s also use either box as a roost over winter. It is brilliant to watch them working so hard when building the nest up and see the fledglings go. After being sure that neither box is being used after fledging, I take them down and give them a good scalding with hot water, and a bit of disinfectant. Let them dry thoroughly and put them back up ready for winter.

Hi gardenning granny and Forester2, Yes it is actually quite a nice looking plant, and if my memory serves me right, I think it was from a packet of free wild seeds I applied for the year before last, this plant did not flower last year but it has done well this time. But as you say, it might need a bit of `management`. It looks like this at the moment.....

Granular Fertilizer

Hi all, what sort of granular fertilizer should I use in the preparation of a small plot of ground I want to turf over. It will only need a small amount so I don`t want a great big bag or tub of the stuff, cheers, cresser.
