Fairygirl - sorry about that, that certainly shouldn't be happening. That sounds like another browser-related issue. Could you visit supportdetails.com for us, so we can look into it for you?

It will automatically create a snapshot of exact browser version, operating system etc

All you need to do is fill in your name, email address and ours - website@gardenersworld.com

Tetley - with respect, it did need changing. No website that needs to maintain traffic levels in 2016 can afford to not be 'responsive' - i.e. work equally well on mobile devices as on desktops. We didn't go about it in the right way, though, that's for sure. Lesson learned!

Tetley - Ha! It wasn't doing that when I originally posted - now fixed, I hope. That's another bug reported to the devs...

Hello hollie hock,

At present the only way to get to a particular page number that isn’t already listed in the shortcuts at the bottom is to directly change the page address in your browser. So, the full address of this page is:

http://www.gardenersworld.com/forum/site-feedback/your-new-look-forum/975698-22.html

If you wanted to get to, say, 15, you could overwrite the ’22’ at the end of that address (before the .html) with 15.

That’s hardly an ideal solution, of course - when we meet with the tech team tomorrow we’ll be asking if a simpler feature can be added to navigate to particular pages. (If so, it wouldn’t be a quick fix, so not one of the changes that will go live in the next week.)

Re: the beta testing, yes, that would have been far preferable to the situation we’re currently in! There is a fairly long list of adjustments that need to be made, but rest assured we’ll address as many as we can over the coming week. That will hopefully get us to a point where people will be happier, and we can look at working some of the other, less crucial tweaks. As with any digital project, with a finite budget, we have to prioritise - sort the ‘essentials’ from the ‘nice to haves’.

As for targets for registered users, the simple answer is ‘as many as possible’! (We do have more specific targets than that, though.) People will only register and stay with us if they like what they see, though, and find it useful. Obviously our challenge at present is to win back some trust and convince people that this is the best forum (and website) for them to be using. That’s top of our ‘to do’ list!

Hazel - Ah, that's good! We'll now get an email which will list the details that you saw listed on the page. We pass these details on to our tech team, in order that they investigate the problems that people are experiencing.

There are so many different versions of web browsers, operating systems, all of which can cause websites to behave different. If the techies know exactly which version of which browser and which operating system somebody is using, they can replicate those conditions, so they can 'recreate' the problem in order to investigate it.

Fairygirl - yes, I think it's disturbing! 


Hazel - ah, that's what you should be seeing, not the GW site. What the Support Details site does is take an instant 'snapshot' of your details (operating system, web browser etc). All you need to do is add your email address and our email address - website@gardenersworld.com - in the relevant boxes at the top, where prompted and then submit.


The reason we need these details is so developers can replicate problems in order to correct them.

That should now work - do let me know if not.

Hazel - Maybe open up Safari first, then type 'supportdetails.com' (without the quote marks) in the address bar. That should open up the page, with no prompts for usernames or passwords. Please try that and let me know if you have any further trouble!

Hazel - that's odd, the Support Details site doesn't require a username or password. What device are you using to access the site - desktop computer or a tablet?

In the meantime, we'll need to know a few details about your system. It would be very helpful if you could visit the following site, and just input your name and email address where prompted and also our address (website@gardenersworld.com) in the ‘Recipient’s email’ in the fields at the top of the page:

It's very quick and easy - the site automatically detects your browser and operating system – you don’t need to add any technical details yourself.

As I said, LeadFamer, we're doing all we can to correct the glitches and problems. I hope you'll not bail out right now, but it's up to you - bear with us a bit longer and I'm confident that we can make it a forum you'll want to use regularly.
