Video projects and other project categories

Posted: 13/04/2013 at 10:54

Hello everyone,

There is temporary problem with the pagination in our project category pages, meaning you cant see the page numbers to navigate between pages. This will be fixed next week, but in the meantime hear is a workaround to enable to see all of the pages within any categories:

When you can see the first page of a category, such as:

www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/video-projects/

You can navigate to the next page in the sequence by typing /2/ at the end, e.g.

www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/video-projects/2/

Just keep doing that until you reach the last page in the sequence. This will work in any sub-category, such as

http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/greenhouse/

http://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/pots-containers/spring/

http://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/features/flowers/

Not ideal, I know, but it will enable you to see all the pages in any category until the developers fix this early next week.

Problems with site

Posted: 13/04/2013 at 09:54

Hello everyone,

We're obviously having some problems today, as the reply function isn't working. My guess is that is caused by the migration to the new server yesterday, which seems to have fixed the speed issues, but something has else has clearly gone awry. Please accept my apologies for this. I'm afraid it's likely to be Monday before this gets attention, but it will be dealt with first thing.

Website problems?

Posted: 12/04/2013 at 16:29

Hello again,

It seems that we're having problems with the server that the site is hosted on. We're in the process of moving the site to another server, which will resolve the performance issues. This is quite a big job, I'm told, which will take a number of hours. So, until the job is complete (the development team is aiming to get it done by late this evening), it's likely that the site will continue to load slowly.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience and annoyance caused, but please be assured the problem is being worked on. Thank you for bearing with us.

Website problems?

Hello Gold1locks,

There is some development work being done on the site today, which is probably causing the performance issues that you mention. I've passed this on to the tech team, who will do their best to keep the delays to a minimum. Many thanks for letting us know.

Hello everyone,

A fix for the 'My posts' bug has been implemented. It has been tested, so should be working fine. Do please let me know, though, if you have any further problems.

Apologies again for the delay with fixing this, and thank you for bearing with us.

What has happened???

Posted: 08/04/2013 at 17:33

Hello everyone,

I thought I'd post a few thoughts on the issues raised by this thread, and also clarify how we moderate the forum…

First, I’m very proud of the fact that the GW forum is, generally, such a positive and friendly place. There has been some ‘aggro’ recently, which is a shame. Conflict breaks out from time to time in most online communities, but we’re fortunate to have far less of the ‘sniping and griping’ common to other forums.

Regarding moderation, we take a ‘reactive’ approach to this i.e. we investigate any complaint reports we receive, and remove any posts that contravene our forum code of conduct, which you can view here:

View the GW forum code of conduct

What we won’t do is stifle debate, or get involved in arguments on particular threads. You are all quite free to disagree with each other (it would, after all, be a rather bland forum if you didn’t), but we do request that you observe the following sections of our code of conduct:

Be friendly
In short: don’t say anything to forum users that you wouldn’t say to their face. Please avoid hateful speech, and don’t attack anybody on the basis of their race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age or religion.

Be constructive
Robust debate is fine, but please tolerate opinions that differ from your own, and maintain a reasonable tone in your posts. Also, try to keep to the theme of any threads you enter, so the forum remains useful to everybody.

Regarding the sharing of links, either on threads or via private message, we’re very happy for you to do this. We do remove any ‘spam’ threads that we find, which are advertising products or services, but you’re free to share links about other websites, forums etc The internet is big enough for all of us, after all.

So, that just leaves me to say:

Don't let petty squabbles spoil the community that has developed here - please talk about plants and gardens instead, they're far more interesting. It’s a gardening forum, not a soap opera!

Thank you.

What Is Going On With Site??

Posted: 04/04/2013 at 09:19

Hello everyone,

An update on the problem with the 'My posts' page: the problem has been fixed on our development server. The fix will be published to the live site during our next 'site build', which is likely to be next week. I'm sorry that the fix can't go live this week, but do please bear with us a little longer. The other issues, including the spellchecker and the notification emails, are logged and will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Hello everyone,

The issue with the spellchecker has been added to the job list. Apologies for the continued delay with fixing these problems. Please bear with us - the dev team will sort things out as soon as they can.
