Still waiting for updates everyone?

Posted: 14/11/2014 at 17:20

Thanks for submitting your details, Beaus Mum, I've passed them on the dev team, and asked someone to look into the issue with the notifications as soon as possible.  Re: the iPad issue, as mentioned, we don't yet have a date for the fix on this - it affects a number of the sites that use our publishing platform. I've requested a progress report and will update when I hear back.

Hello Beaus Mum,

I'm sorry to hear that. What exactly is the problem? Is the Support Details page not loading when you click the link?

Hello Busy-Lizzie. Either is fine - if you use your forum username that will make it a bit easier for the dev team.

Hello Beaus Mum,

The dev team are working on the fix for the broken avatar links this week. Once the work is finished it will go through the usual testing routine, to make sure it works on all devices. I don't have an exact live date yet, I'm afraid, but it shouldn't be much longer.

The fix for the problems with tablets is in the development queue. We're in the process of planning some major upgrades to the site, and this work is included on the 'to do' list.

The tech team looks after a large number of other websites, including new site launches, which takes up a lot of time and resource. This means that they can't respond immediately to the large number of requests they receive every week from the various website teams. I appreciate it's frustrating when certain features of the site aren't working as they should (we find it frustrating too), but please be assured we always try to make the best use of the resources we have, and to solve problems as quickly as possible.

Re: email notification problems, if you haven't done so already, please visit the following page:

This page will automatically generate a 'snapshot' of your system (i.e. browser version, operating system etc) which we pass on the technical team, so they can attempt to replicate the problem. All you need to do is input your name and email address in the relevant fields and add to the 'Receipient's email' field and click 'Send details'.

So, apologies that we can't fix everything on the list straight away, but the avatars will be back shortly!

Have I overdone it?

Posted: 04/09/2014 at 09:02

OK, everyone. This is getting silly.

Anybody is entitled to start a thread on this forum. There are many thousands of pages on that forum, and many participants. It's inevitable that there will be disputes and differences of opinion from time to time. That's fine, within limits. What isn't fine is choosing to open a thread by somebody you've previously complained about and then goading them.

The forum is open to everyone and all are welcome, providing they abide by the code of conduct. 'Getting on somebody else's nerves' is not a breach of the code of conduct. Posting rude or aggressive comments about/to them is a breach of the code of conduct. It isn't pleasant and it isn't worthy of intelligent adults.

As I've stated elsewhere before, this is a gardening forum, not a kindergarten.

Lord knows this forum isn't the most technically advanced in the world, but we do provide an 'ignore' button. If you're not willing to use it then I'm afraid you'll have to accept that people can't be forced off the forum simply because you don't like them. Use your energy more constructively by starting a thread of your own.

We run the site with a very small team and we'd rather spend our time adding new projects, features, blogs and competitions to the site - things that make a positive difference to people's lives - than getting involved in needless arguments.

I'll end this tetchy outburst by asking everybody (and I do mean everybody) to change the subject back to gardening. I'm not going to delete this thead, but I will close it to further comments if there is any further unpleasantness.

Thank you.

Hello Bekkie. I'm sorry that the experience of using the site on mobile is less than ideal. It's something we're aware of and are working to improve the situation. We can't make all the necessary changes immediately, but please be assured it's on our 'to do' list!

Hello Mike. Thanks for the suggestion. Clarington is quite correct, though, that such a list would make it easy for spammers to target users of the site with private messages. That wouldn't prove to be a very popular addition to the site, I think!   We do consider all suggestions for upgrading and improving the site - we're currently working through the results of the audience research we conducted earlier in the year, in order to plan the forthcoming development work. As ever, feel free to post other feedback/suggestions here on the forum, or drop us a line at Alternatively, do send me a private message.

Plant ID - post questions for GW Magazine

Thanks for your posts, everyone. We've enjoyed seeing your images, and it's been fun to solve some horticultural mysteries! The clematis proved to be a particular challenge...

This thread is now closed, but do please keep posting your images in the Plants section of the forum if you need help with IDs.

Hello Gardengirl. It should be fine in both sun or partial shade, in a well-drained soil.

Reply to Debs13: it's a bit tricky to tell from your image! Do you have any more that you could upload?
