New site - bugs

Posted: 26/04/2012 at 18:01

Hello figrat. Thanks for the update - it's good news that the image upload works for you from Safari. I'll let the team know that it seems to be an issue with IE8, and hopefully we can get it fixed.

How to give feedback about the new site

Reply to figrat: did you see my other message relating to the problem? If you could try uploading the image from another browser than IE8, then that will help us determine if it is a browser issue. It might be worth trying in Firefox or Chrome, if that is possible. Also, are your files beneath the 1Mb file size limit for uploads? (Apologies if you've already answered this, and I'm having a brain fog!)

Many thanks,

Daniel

Reply to backyardee: I'm pleased to hear that you like gardenersworld.com, and that you will be visiting more often! Do let us know if there is anything you would like to see on the site.

Reply to FloBear: thanks for the feedback regarding the avatar hover box. I'll add this to my list of questions for the techies. I feel a spreadsheet coming on! Good to hear that you find the site easy to use; particularly nice to have feedback on the new Search facility, which we were thrilled by when it was first introduced at the end of last year.

How to give feedback about the new site

Reply to Swedboy. Do you mean that you'd like to receive email alerts when particular threads are updated? As you will have noticed, it's currently only possible if you've contributed to the thread. The easiest way to track threads on a given subject is to use the search facility at the top of each page. Once a result is returned, it is possible to filter further by content type, one of the filters being forum posts. The advantage of this method is that it would display links to all forum posts on that subject, not just one. For example, here is a search result for forum posts relating to roses:

Does this help?

Reply to sotongeoff. Well, the Description field is very short, so doesn't allow for much detail, and only works as a summary; in most cases it would be necessary to go into more detail within the post, anyway. (Plus, if there isn't any text in the main body of the post, it looks like an error, and people are unlikely to respond.)

It would be interesting, though, to know what other forum users think - would you find it useful for the Description text to appear within the post, as well as on the list of threads? Do let us know.

If there is a consensus that it would be useful, then I can certainly ask if it would be possible!

Incidentally, everyone, here are a couple of links to our wisteria content, which you might find useful:

Hello sotongeoff. Do you mean within the actual post itself? The description is intended an optional extra to allow posters to provide a brief summary of the content of their actual post. I think in most instances the content of the description would be covered within the post itself, so it wouldn't necessarily add anything to include it again. I hope I haven't misunderstood your question!

Reply to Gold1locks: I've posted a response over on the wisteria thread.

I'm afraid I've not been able to replicate the other problem, but it could be related to the previous issue with the 'View first unread post' link. The technical team will give that their attention.

Thanks for the alert!

Hello sotongeoff. This is probably because the "buds are brown" text was input into the 'Description' field of the new thread, and not the main editing box.

Reply to John Reynolds: if you did type any further text into your message, that didn't appear, do please let me know, and I can help you repost, if necessary.

Many thanks,

Daniel
