New site - bugs

Posted: 20/04/2012 at 14:18

Reply to figrat: I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems using the forum from your iPad. We'll do some testing to see if we can replicate the problem, and give you an update. You've probably already noticed that our videos don't play on the iPad. We're currently in the process of converting our 180+ videos to a format that will play on iPad, and we hope to complete this process in the next couple of weeks.

Reply to Gold1locks: Apologies for the glitch you're experiencing. Could I just check what browser you're using to access the site, and whether you're using a mac or a PC? This will help our technical team investigate the problem for you.

Reply to David K: You're welcome! I hope you're able to upload your images - do let me know if not.

Reply to Amazing2: did you try to upload an image using the small tree icon? Dragging an image from your computer won't work - you'll need to use the tree icon. Just click that, then, within the 'My computer' tab, navigate to the image on your computer you want to upload, click 'Select', then 'Upload'. Your image should then appear.

Reply to Salino: Lovely image! And thank you for sharing your advice on reducing image sizes.

Reply to lilylouise and David K: I'm sorry you've had problems uploading an image. Try saving the images you want to upload onto your computer (for example, to your desktop), then, click the small tree icon and, within the 'Your computer' tab, navigate to the file on your computer, using the 'Select' tool, and click 'Upload'. The image should then appear within your message. Do let me know if you have any further difficulties.

How to give feedback about the new site

Posted: 19/04/2012 at 10:08

Reply to Gary Hobson: I'm pleased to hear that you like the functionality of the forum. Thank you for your comments about advertising. Like many community forums, we don't allow advertisements. This is because the purpose of the forums is for people to share information and ideas about gardening; if we permitted advertising, the forum would quickly become overrun with commercial posts, making it harder for people to navigate, and to find the information they're looking for. We do remove advertising posts when we find them, and message the posters to explain the reason. If anybody wishes to advertise elsewhere on the site, we're happy to put them in touch with the advertising team. You can view the full forum code of conduct here:

How to give feedback about the new site

Posted: 19/04/2012 at 09:59

Reply to Gold1locks: Yes, it's lovely to see so many 'migrants' from the BBC messageboard, and nice to read so much positive feedback. Regarding the html code appearing, this can happen when cutting and pasting directly from web pages and programmes such as Word. The easiest way to prevent this is to paste the text into an application such as Notepad or Textedit (usually installed on most computers), which will strip out the excess code, then copy again and paste that into your message. Alternatively, you can use the 'HTML' option above the post input box and edit the HMTL code of the message directly, to strip out the excess code. I hope this helps!

Searching the site?

Posted: 18/04/2012 at 15:48

Hello grai. Once you've searched for a particular term, you can then filter the results further, to prevent you from scrolling through all of the results pages. You can choose to view articles (i.e. projects, problem pages, blogs etc), forum posts or plant profiles. So, for example, if you search for 'Window boxes', then click the 'articles' button, you'll see a list of all the content types in the left-hand menu:

Search results for 'window boxes', filtered by article

Search results for 'window boxes', filtered by forum posts

We've deliberately included forum posts within the site-wide search, to allow people to find all the content related to any particular topic on gardenersworld.com. I hope this helps.

Searching the site?

Hello Green Magpie. If you use the search box at the top of every page, that will bring up any site content related to your chosen search topic, including forum posts. Do let me know if you have any difficulties finding anything.

Hello David 3. Yes, the 2012 2-for-1 entry card and guide will be available free with the May issue of Gardeners' World Magazine, on sale late April. This year there are more gardens participating than ever - 272 in total.
