Posted: 15/03/2013 at 01:47

Hi all, I have been out to check on the lillies today. The soil was frozen from all the cold weather we have had. There doesnt appear to be anything growing that i can see. is it still early days?

lawn improvement

chainsawsal. I have the same problem as you. I moved into a newbuild house two years ago. I asked for them to put a lawn down as a sweetner(not all houses had a lawn). Now i wish i never had. Both my neighbours laid there own. They riddled out so many stones/bricks and rubbish and put quality top soil down before laying a lawn. There lawns grow so much better than mine. I have tried fertiliser, scarifying and all manner of things bar digging it up and starting again. Nothing has really worked as well as i'd like.

advice for newbie

thats good as its snowing again here today. I am thinking about widening the border. Maybe a crescent shape from one point to the other or two crescents(each half way down the fence if that makes sense but Im going to wait a while longer and see how quickly the plants start growing when spring/summer arrives. Dove I live in nuneaton so i tend to use dobbies atherstone but i also like hilltop nr shilton if you know where that is.

attaching a trellis

Hi all thanks for the responses. I am putting trellis's on two lengths of fencing. One length with the horizontal pieces, the other without. I will take the battens idea on board. Looks like i may be waiting a little while longer than i wanted to with this cold weather as i planned to paint the trellis the same colour as my fence before attaching it.

attaching a trellis

Hi,

Im installing a trellis to my back fence, i have looked on the internet but all i can find is how to put it on the top of the fence. I was planning to run it up from the ground to the top of the fence. due to the lack of stuff on the internet is this not a common way to install a trellis. My most important concern is do i need to consider things like depth for the plant to get between the trellis and fence? its a framed trellis so there is few mm of gap.

thanks
