Just a couple of points. Because of cross pollination, your mixed sweet peas may not necessarily reproduce true to type, but should still give a worthwhile display. It may also be worth noting that deep purple  sweet peas have a stronger scent than the paler colours....this is because they are closer related to the original sweet peas.

There isn't any difference in the procedure for saving seed from F1 hybrids. Hanging basket sweet peas don't lend themselves to autumn sowing...much better to sow the seed directly into the baskets in the spring.

Absolutely nothing to do with autumn tints, but whilst visiting the Forrest of Dean we called in on the ruins of the amazing Tintern Abbey...well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Hi, wood ash contains just a small amount of potash, but not as much as is often attributed to it and is only about one twelfth as valuable as sulphate of potash. Having said that and to answer your question, it is best applied at at 1/2lb per sq yd on open ground.

Potash aids the development of fruit & flowers.

Tonight's show was one of the best of the series for me.

1) Star of the show Nigel is on the mend.

2) The blind lady was an inspiration to any gardener.

3) Carol's contributions are always enjoyable.

4) The 92 year old's allotment was a credit to him and didn't he know his stuff?

How I wish I had read this forum before I sowed my autumn sweet pea.  I seem to have done most of the wrong things as a result of which I have leggy plants which I probably sowed too early and didn't appreciate they didn't need extra warmth to  germinate in the autumn.  My only excuse is that I've never tried autumn sweet pea before and I that only joined the Gardner's World site last week.  I hope to do better next year!

Oh what a shame!  I do try to encourage people not to coddle them.

Perhaps all may not be lost, if you nip out the growing tips & we get some cold weather to steady their growth, they may be OK.

Yes, just leave them in your plastic mini-greenhouse, they are perfectly hardy and don't need any form of heat.

It has to be said that forums such as this are very vulnerable to misuse in this way.

The BBC gardening message-boards were not all that innocent either.....although theirs were usually confined to threads started by individuals (usually posting just once) extolling the virtues of Mr Don & Gardeners' World; whilst threads attempting to advertise were stamped on firmly.
