Thanks, KEF....decided to give my new camera a twirtle in monochrome today ....hope I don't sound boring, but apart from aforementioned weather, the wind is bitterly cold.

Btw, I saw a black & white cow today, too.

PS. The one wiv the droopy horns is brown & white.

Crisp, clear, cold winter's day here today and I think this flooded river pic shows it.

Fritillary - like KEF, I'm pleased you have managed to post your pics....also, like KEF, I love those poppies.  I was tempted to tinker-around and remove some of background.

Growing Sweet Peas 2014/2015

Baz -  I see you've had a few reliable tips elsewhere. However, from what you ask I would just add.

Sweet peas are best grown in the same pots from seed sowing to planting out, because they don't like root disturbance....hence no potting-on/off.

'Prick the leaves off'? I presume you mean pinching-out. Best to nip out the growing tips when they have two or three pairs of leaves (detailed pictures on the previous page of this thread).

They prefer a sunny, open situation and don't plant too thickly, otherwise they'll be troubled with mildew later in the season.

Finally, expect them to grow to at least 8 feet, so support accordingly.

Read this recently, which I think summed up the Toby Buckland era very well:

“Toby Buckland took over in 2009, and after a short-lived revamp of the show that used 60 minute-long episodes with added features which had been likened (amongst other things) to elements of programmes such as popular motoring show Top Gear (by featuring a 'cool wall') and CBeebies by virtue of featuring young children.”

Rather a shame I think, as I saw him as a victim of someone else's stupidity.

Worries & troubles that affect Forum friends.

Like bekkie, I'm not up to speed with happenings on this thread, having said that I send my best wishes to Matty and hope she makes a quick & complete recovery.

 Googled pic:

Steve McCurry is a National Geographic photographer and some of you may have seen this portrait of the Afghan girl. This is inspiring to anyone who would aspire to take stunning portraits.

Anyone with nostalgic traits towards old TV progs, I would suggest getting a copy of The Victorian Kitchen Garden. Presented by Peter Thoday and ably assisted by the wonderful & talented head gardener, Harry Dodson.....the latter being on a par with the sainted Geoff Hamilton, IMHO.

Before this thread vanishes into oblivion, I would just say that there is another thread running in the Potting Shed entitled 'Monty Don Tour'...and although I've only skim read it, it seems to be a sell-out....and this is one of the concerns I have about Mr Don.

Given these tours and TV work, I would think more of him if he were honest and not try to pretend that his pristine, large garden was as a result of his own efforts and let us know who does the real work at Longmeadow... after all, it was in a pretty run down state when GW was first broadcast from there.
