Can i grow new poached egg plants next year from these seeds??

Posted: 29/07/2013 at 17:10

Hi there all, i made a mistake and got 2 of my plants mixed up, these seeds are actually from a Tidy Tips, these grow pretty easily so I reckon these seeds will grow fine next year, and that probably explains why there is a bit of yellow left on them.

What are these growing at the base of my fern please??

Ahh amateur mistake on my part, i will throw the new plants/weeds straight out and repot the fern, removing the other plants from the base.

thanks very much for the tips guys, love this forum, so helpful.

Thanks ChrissieB i will certainly try and plant some in Autumn, see what happens. Do you have any tips for drying the seeds? Do I Just leave on windowsill or in greenhouse for a week or 2?

And Nutcutlet, the seeds were just about to drop from the heads, some had already half dropped, so i guess they probably just need drying out. I do have another couple of poached egg plants that are still in full bloom, i will try and leave these to the very last minute before harvesting seeds but they seem to fall quite soon after flower dies.

thanks for taking the time to reply chaps!

 Hi all

please see the above pics of my fern, I am not sure of the variety but I believe it is Ostrich \ shuttlecock type.  There are lots of shoots at the base of the fern, some of which i have potted up seperately as pictured, i am just wondering if these will grow into ferns themselves? I would love it if they did as i would like another half dozen ferns for the garden.

Many thanks in advance if you can offer any advice!

I collected these this morning from some dead poached egg flowers. Just before they dropped off themselves.  Does anyone know if i keep these whether i can grow from them next spring?  Also do i need to dry them out for a bit? If so can i get some advice on drying them and how best to store them.

many thanks in advance for any help!

Hi all

i have a gorgeous, but small, scarlet red dianthus plant and i would love to keep the seeds and grow lots more of these next year.  I have been saving all the flower heads after deadheading them for last few weeks but will these dead heads still ripen fully and produce the dark seeds i need for germination? At the mo the seeds are more cream coloured so not ripe Yet.

any advice on where i should store the flower heads (greenhouse or airing cupboard?),  when the seeds should be ready to extract etc... would be great
