help with yellow jasmine

Posted: Today at 08:02

I find winter flowering jasmine needs to be pruned from the base, otherwise you cut off all the next flowers. A frost will tempoarily kill off the blooms but more will come. They take readily from shoots which appear around the base and I have given away successful plants lfrom these.it is a wonderful plant once established but does better it can get a little winter sun. Good luck with yours

BIG BIRD WATCH

Posted: 31/01/2015 at 17:26

Perhaps some other people are doing a bird watch all at the same time. If everyone makes sure their feeders are topped up the birds have a choice of where to go! I always do two stints over the weekend and submit the most successful.

Anyone done any gardening today?

Too cold here in Cheshire to do any gardening. I have checked the bird feeders and made a hole in the pond ice for my fish. I suppose that doesn't count though!

Lucky you SFord living near that wonderful nursery. It was such a special place I would recomend it to anyone holidaying in that area We were staying with a friend who lives in North Cornwall.

Thanks all for your very helpful comments. I will take your advice and move them as they are clearly not thriving where they are.

Scented Pelagoniums

Hello all,  Can anyone advise me on the best way to get my two lovely scented Pelagoniums through the winter? I purchased these plants from a  Duchy nursery in Cornwall and I would really like them to survive until the summer. At present they are in a light but centrally heated room and do not look too happy. Leaves are curling and dropping off. One has become leggy but I don't feel this is the right time to chop those leggy bits off. Would my cold porch or conservatory be better for them or finish them off? Any advice would be very welcome!

Caterpillars

Posted: 11/01/2015 at 14:16

Where do you live Alidonne? I would have thought that the first frost would see them off. Perhaps the birds will find them on cold days. The green caterpillars are probably the lavae of the Cabbage White butterfly and I am very surprised that they are still around.mine disappeared in November when the weather changed.
