Goldfish and tadpoles

Posted: Yesterday at 18:10

That is all very interesting folks. I have detached a small amount of spawn and put it in a solid pot with pond water and a plant or too and left the pot by the side of the pond to give a few a chance to develop. There are shallow areas of the pond and lots of plants and pebbles so one or two may survive.there appear to be gnat larvae in the pot which was in the pond water so the gold fish are not eating everything.

Thank you for your replies. I can now see what I can do to help those little taddies.

Oh dear!  Two must have survived last year so perhaps one or two will make it this year.

I have a large splodge of frogspawn in my pond and my four goldfish are ignoring it thankfully, however I am wondering whether the tadpoles will be safe when they emerge from their protective jelly. Does anyone on the forum know ?

  1. Yes!  I sowed some rocket in my herb garden and broad beans and leeks in my veggie patch. The weeding got a little attention too

That tale is appalling Gillian. Not much we can do about some things but perhaps you did the blackbirds a good turn in making them look for a safer site to build their home in.

There are different varieties of ferns. I have an evergreen one which grows over my little pond so I hard prune it. It soon grows back as I imagine most ferns would. not sure about the other varieties though.

I hard pruned my ivy one autumn thinking the blackbirds had finished with it and to my utter horror several fledglings fell out of a nest still in use. I tried to put them back but they didn't want to go back.I was horrified as you can imagine. Just a cautionary tale.
