But if you drill wood to the sides even wide enough to drill holes an insert even offcuts of bamboo stakes so you can slide 22mm water piping over, all cut at the same lengths thay make a perfect hoop!

The bed's outer frame isn't wide enough to insert a peg so you can slide the water pipe over to create a hoop to either drape polythene or netting over!

Bunny, it,s sounds like ya soil to me, I'd dig it up and stick it in a pot till you can inprove the soil.

Here's one I dug out of my late Parents garden,(besides a few other things)

I bunged it in a pot and it flowered it's socks off last year.
