Lonicera periclymenum 'Belgica' Honeysuckle

Posted: 02 December 2011
Overall: Ive had a problem with my honeysuckle this year with powdery mildew.Even though the roots are shaded and its been well watered its become a problem and the leaves have fallen off. What i did notice is that 7 or 8 stems up either side of the trellis intertwined with each other.Could this have caused powdery mildew due to lack of air circulation.Next year i propose to train my honeysuckle better and spray it with a systemic fungicide in late spring. Will this work?

Acer palmatum Japanese maple

Posted: 02 December 2011
Overall: over the last two years my japanese acers leaves have not turned red during the autumn. But when i bought the tree a few years back the leaves did turn red during the first autumn.Otherwise the tree is very healthy.Could the soil ph influence leaf colour.During the spring i mulched the tree with peat and flowers of sulphur to try and lower the soil ph.I would be grateful for any advice....
Ive also heard that a european law may be banning flowers of sulphur by the end of the year.Is this true?

Sambucus nigra 'Black lace' Common elder

Posted: 02 December 2011
Overall: ive read that black elders dont like to much sun because it can burn the new growth. Is this true? Also if you cut elders back too hard (like you suggest)they wont flower the year after.Ive found that if they are cut back hard you will get denser foliage.
