Many thanks. I'll cut it back a bit lower. I've put those stems in a vase as I'm curious to see what they look like in full bloom.

We are all guilty of doing that. Taking seeds of nigella,' just in case' which I love , but I've already got them coming up all over the garden. When I prune shrubs I always feel bad about throwing the cuttings away and usually pot them up and tend them religiously until they are growing well. But then I don't know what to do with them! Certainly no space in my garden . You can't see an inch of soil between plants!

I have friends and family who are usually happy to find homes for them.

My daughter has just shown me the rhubarb plant I gave her 2 years ago. It had 5 big stems of flowers on it. I've never seen rhubarb flowering before . My grandad had a huge clump and in all my childhood I never saw a flower on it at all. I suggested she cut the flowers off as it might weaken the crown. Should we now feed it or is it because the ground is so rich that this has happened. She's next to a woodland so she gets a lot of leaf mould on her veg patch, and the soil is dark and rich.

I cut the stems off down to a leaf but should they have been cut to the soil level?

These are a tall variety, currently still with last year's berries on and standing 3ft tall!

I've inherited a large one of these and mine has not flowered well for 2 years since I moved it. It liked being on a north facing windowsill and had up to 10 flower clusters on it each year. I had to move it and I only got one flower last year. My north facing room was cooler, so maybe they don't like it too hot and dry.

Erigeron glaucus is a favourite. I know it grows everywhere once you've got it but it's so dainty and I love the shades of pink turning to white. Mind you I am a daisy nut, and another fav is Esther Reed- Leucanthemum really, so I'm cheating.!

Although I've had this growing for a few years I've not been able to find out when I should cut this back. I usually take about a third off the top each spring, but the clump is getting taller and taller. So I'm wondering if I'm not cutting enough off. Anyone out there got one as well. I love it for the red berries, that turn black and look fabulous with a frost on them. So it has a good interest all year.

Favourite 'C's' caryopteris, coreopsis,(bloom for ages) and couldn't live without my clematis' or ceanothus. Then onto 'D's' all forms of dianthus family.

Mine are all nibbled as well, even the polyanthus coloured ones, but we never see a sparrow here so it must be a favourite of another bird as well.

had your final frost yet - taking a gamble?

Essex here should be warmer from now on, but I've even known a frost early May on a warm year. No knowing if we'll have one later, but for now I'm keeping fingers crossed and will get the seedlings off the windowsills and into the cold greenhouse.
