What is your weather like? (2)

Here in Essex we've had big black rolling clouds all day. Sadly not a drop of that moisture has fallen! More watering tonight then.

Lily beetles

is it right that they stay dormant in soil over winter? Someone told me that they hatch out once the foliage appears.

Oh I don't like to think I am killing bees by using Provado, but I do only use it on two pots of lilies, not on anything else in the garden. I hope that as I grow numerous bee loving plants, hopefully they won't settle on my lilies.

I have not seen any beetles yet or holes in the leaves, but I've sprayed with  Provado because I know that if I miss checking one day I might get a nasty surprise the next day. Little blighters!

Here in Essex we are desperate for rain as well. Usually at this time of year I am complaining because my borders are full of water, as we are on heavy clay. But I am watering pots all the time and even things in borders are looking limp! Unheard of in previous years! I suppose I shouldn't pray for rain as I might get more than I bargained for, but just a good couple of hours each week would be nice.

Shrivelled tulip flowers

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with these. They were glorious last year but have not really developed properly and just gone wrinkly. They were a special variety that I sent for from Holland for my daughter and myself and hers have gone the same. I fed them well a few times after last years flowering.

I'll give it a good haircut in a few weeks in case some flowers appear . Thank you all.

Why have I not had a single flower on either of my forsythia bushes this year. They both had their usual prune after blooming well last year. Could it be the birds eating the buds?

Amaryllis stem

After nurturing last year's bulb for twelve months I was delighted to see a flower bud emerging. I have never managed to get one to flower twice before. Sadly the dog ran past it with a toy in his mouth and broke the three inch bud stem off. I was devastated and can see green appearing now but it looks like leaves. Is there a chance of another flower stem this year?
