Mussel shell uses

Posted: 24/10/2015 at 11:24

I put mine in the oven after I'd been baking, while oven was cooling down. It made them more crispy and  easier to crush. I put them in a carrier and and stood on them . Mind you with 8 kilos worth GG it could take you a while! I found the dog was interested in having a munch if I put them out without baking them. I dread to think what broken muscle shells would have done to his guts!

Confused Crocus?

Yes I thought of that but they may give me a bag of crocuses again! Especially if there's a problem at their suppliers. Worth a try anyway. Thanks

I can't exactly dig them up and take them back to Wyevale for a refund can I?

No they haven't which has made me suspicious. I bought some iris reticulata  bulbs recently and I think there must have been a mistake as I'm sure these crocuses are coming up where I planted the irises. These look like crocus speciosus to me What do you think? I've never bought any of those!

Plant identity question..

What a beautiful border! Certainly something to aspire to.

Pot Roses

I've got two of those a red and a white one in pots on the patio. They don't get any special treatment through the winter and they bloom each year ok. The stems are spindly but I prune mine when I do the rose bed in the spring. They have survived 2 winters here in Essex.

I don't think so as I bought them as a mixed spring flowering lot. The yellow and purple ones flowered together in March.

Today's observations?

Just saved a bee that had flown into a web. Fortunate as a great big spider was just about to have it for lunch with just seconds to spare!

Why are my purple crocuses blooming now?  According to my garden diary they bloomed for a week in March  these last two years. Very odd.

Can you identify?

Thank you both, yes it is very pretty and now I've read a bit about it I think I'll sow the seeds in the spring. There is a very dark purple one growing by this pink one, so I'll have a go at them both.
