buried snails

Watch out everyone. I went to fill a new planter with MPC from an opened bag today only to find something had been laying eggs in it. Nice white round balls just like the ones I found attached to the snail last week. Glad I spotted them as that would not have been a good start to the plants would it?

Lokelani I did the same and when they got to a foot high I thought they'd be ok.  oh no the creature have still decimated them. Might have to grow them in pots permanently. I will not give up!

Oh! Flobear, too much information before my breakfast! Was very brave last night and went out with a torch and a pair of scissors. Did some snipping in half but what a mess it leaves. Yuk. Hope the rain washes the patio off today. Then there will be another lot out tonight. I've just got to be brave and not so squeamish!

How should I shape my pittosporum

I've got a couple of those that are suddenly getting a bit large and was wondering today what I could do. I did think I might take off some of the lower stems so that I can plant under it a bit, but I'm not sure what to do about shaping the top as I don't want it to look beheaded!

Plant Identification

Yes it's very indestructable. I had one with 2 large trunks and decided to saw one off at ground level. It is shooting lovely new stems up in just a couple of months. And there was me worrying that I might have killed it! No chance!

That's really pretty. Not heard of that before. We keep learning every day. I found a link to Derry Watkins nursery and they said it was a hardy annual thay may self-sow.

Does anyone know what this plant is?

The flowers look a bit like some of the wild orchids. Not at all sure from your photo. Have you got a nature reserve near you? You could take a bit to them and see if anyone knows what it is?

Gardeners World - not back for 4 weeks!

Well I watched POV this afternoon and the GW question came up, with several comments from angry viewers. They even had a chappie in the studio to answer questions about this and other matters. It's worth a look on BBC iPlayer. See what you think. Hog-wash I think!

B&Q M.Purpose Compost Issues.

Posted: 01/07/2012 at 19:59

I thought I'd avoid the problems you've all benn having by buying Westlands with peat( against my better judgement) but I've had very poor results from the seed compost. Only 4 seeds germinated from a tray of 24 honesty seeds. And the mpc by the same name does not seem to hold any moisture at all. When I water the pots it just drains right through. Not a happy bunny here! I'm resorting to last years used mpc mixed with my own from my bin. Now I seem to be getting things to grow at last.!
