Worst Winter ....... .?

Posted: 29/01/2014 at 11:18

I'm desperate about the floods in my garden. Every border is full to the lawn level, walking on  the lawn is like walking on a bowl of blancmange. (Not that I've ever done that you understand!) Also there's puddles of standing water on parts of the lawn, so that I can't even do anything out there. Although we are at the top of a hill, the hill is made up of London clay. Great for holding the moisture in the summer but disastrous after so much rain, with more to come. I know I'm not as unfortunate as those folks in Somerset, but I really don't want to lose all my lovely plants.

Pink Viburnum Tinus

I think it must be the Gwenllian  as it's very pink. Many thanks everyone

A neighbour of mine has a large one of these but the flowers and buds are much pinker than either of the ones I'm growing. Has anyone an idea of which variety that would be. The neighbour inherited it when they moved in so has no idea herself. I can't find much info anywhere and thought someone here may help me.

Winter Pansy's

I've still got some  of the  ones  I  planted last autumn. They still have a few flowers on them. Each time they get long and straggly I give them a haircut. Then they just start sending up buds again. I saw this tip on tv , but can't remember which programme.

I agree! I'm missing GW; got withdrawal symptoms, and it's only been gone one week! Same old grumble though, that despite having millions of gardeners in the UK we are not considered important when it comes to planning programmes. In comparison to cookery shows which seem to be on every day, we are ignored!

Agapanthus dilemma

Posted: 22/09/2013 at 11:09

I was given a pot of fabulous agapanthus this year and I had 3 great flower stems on it. I am not sure whether to cut the stems back now they've finished flowering or to leave them to die back like I do with the lilies. On searching the internet there seems to be conflicting advice, so I thought I'd ask my fellow gardeners on here. I'd quite like to save one head to collect seeds, presumably I leave it on the plant to mature them.

Magical raindrops

Just had to share these with my fellow gardeners.

elaeagnus flowers?

That's strange, as one of the reasons I bought it was that next doors variegated one smelt so gorgeous. I think I'll ask her if I can take some cuttings.

Thanks for all the replies folks!
