Thanks Geoff, but its definitely not Hibiscus around me there are lavatera by the bucket load in peoples gardens, some have been there for several years now and are quite big now. I might have to bite the bullet and ask if I can take a cutting from one if I cant find a young plant or seed. I did get some seeds from a tree in Portugal last year but can't remember where I put them.

Hi all,

I am looking to plant some Lavatera or tree mallow, but when im looking online I can only see annual seed or dwarf bushes.

Does anyone know where I could find either a small plant or some seeds of the perennial types

Too late to plant Tulip/Daff bulbs?

Posted: 30/01/2013 at 18:02

Hi LeadFarmer & Leorna

Did you get your daffs and other bulbs planted? If so, any sign of growth yet? I have to admit, I was very naughty yesterday, and bought a sale lot (50) of tulip bulbs for £2, they all looked in excellent condition and had a small sprout on each one. I got out in the garden today and planted them out, if they grow its a bonus, if not I lost £2.. I say worth a try.. On a seperate note, I had to move one of my bushes which had overgrown its pot and in the process pulled out a few Gladioli bulbs which looked great (I know your supposed to lift them for winter). They had all doubled in size since I put them in last March/April and they were realy firm and golden..

Getting a little carried away...

its like they're taunting us..

buy one get one free - free postage - buy 1 get 2 free - we will come and plant them for you.

I mean we are helping the economy by spending in the UK so don't feel bad about taking up these offers.

Oh, and by the way, just in case you haven't already worked it out I'm with you Sam

Can't think at moment Dave but if you know of anyone with a fig tree I would love a cutting.
I am happy to just send you the seeds though.

Why are blackbirds digging the garden

Posted: 26/01/2013 at 07:55

I have to say, I kept finding several bulbs and flowers damaged in the way. I eventually found out that it was squirels who were looking for food and random acorns they had buried earlier in the season, 2 of my large planters had to be re-done. Maybe if you are able to put some food out that they like they might stop searching for their natural food.

Overgrown rose bush

Is there any chance of uploading a photo so we can see, sometimes roses can look done for when they are quite well. Just might need a good pruning.

My next door neighbour has one in her back garden thats been there for over 10 uears, last year it was cut back by almost half because it was huge. A further 10 were planted on the front garden border between her and me, they are growing like mad they need cutting back and shapint this spring. Not sure if its a difference in climate or soil, we live in Surrey.
