Too late to plant Tulip/Daff bulbs?

Posted: 07/01/2013 at 10:30

Dont worry Leorna, on occasion I have had a similar reaction to a post. Some people seem to be perfect and quick to judge others, they do not take into account other factors which you may not put in your threads (because it isnt really relevant to others). All you are doing is asking for some helpfull advice. If some people come across in a bad way then they are just showing themselves up and ignore it... There are plenty of people here who are more than happy to help. BTW, I saw a video once that said planting daff bulbs throughout Nov-Feb will also stager the flowering periods, so you should have flowers later into the year. I'm not sure if this works with all bulbs though (probably not)..

can I plant now?

I planted 2 rows of box hedging last year and so far I am thrilled with the result. They have grown reasonably quickly but will take a few years to get to the exact height I want. From what I have seen its worth the wait..

They are for garden growing, so I know that I wont be able to put them out for a while (although we are currently having March/April weather) I have tried doing it by the book several times with toms but have only been really happy with the result when I broke the rules. Its not alot of time effort or money if it doesnt work out so I will give it a try. what else is there to do in the garden for the next month or so.

well Geoff, we had a hosepipe ban until May-June, my garden is half an acre, so as you can imagine, trying to water everything I needed to with saved shower water was a bit of a nightmare.. Please dont be so quick to judge

Also, what I did last year didnt work, so this year I'm going to try a different tactic (like the year before last and had so many toms that I couldnt get through them all) I will also plant in March to see which works best and at worst, I will loose 1pence worth of seeds.

Sharpening tools

secateurs and shears are relatively easy, take of any rust residue (bit of wire wool will do it) then you can either use a sharpening stone or a sharpening tool, available from most hardware or diy shops (or online)

Taking Laurel Cuttings

Hi all, I have several stunning varigated Laurel bushes in my garden and would like to take some cuttings this year (its free plants). Has anyone done this.? I have a south facing garden (Surrey), with a cold frame and lots of sheltered space.

I understand that now is too early, but as I am completely unsure as to where to begin I thought I had better post early so I dont end up missing the right time.

Yellow patches on lawn

If the lawn is fenced off then it's unlikely that its your dog... I have a bitch that uses the lawn toilet but she loves tomatoes so she gets one daily. I agree with the Dove it could well be foxes.
