Black leaved Cow Parsley - Anthriscus sylvestris "Ravenswing"

Posted: 02/08/2014 at 10:30

Family: Apiaceae

Common name: Black Cow Parsley                       Plant Classification:            Hardy perennial             Minimum Height: 60 cm                      Maximum Height: 90 cm                      Packet Content(approx.): 30+   My seeds didn't germinate so put them in the fridge for 2 months+ in a pot in a zipped bag, then brought out, 2 days later they germinated and already sprouting nicely after only a few days.  Googled and found Sarah Raven says they are biennial and another site says perennial?  Which is correct and how should I care for them over winter as small plants?  In the ground or in a zippy greenhouse or in the house?

IRIS seeds- how do I sow it-?

Posted: 02/08/2014 at 10:14

I was given the seeds or small berry sized in June- a lovely pale yellow & maroon iris, I have soaked the small berry sized seed and it appears to have swelled, but now not sure if I was to break it open and find small seeds inside or just plant the small pea sized seed?

Probably not the best time to sow either?

Yes my mum's garden does look lovely- I keep adding plants to it- those I bought for myself but can't plant at the moment until I have done a major chop back- plants seem to have exploded over the paths.

I will take a photo tonight of my mum's new gravel garden, it was a sparse lawn before- now virtually maintenance free and something to look at as the various plants swell in size and come into flower.

Watering dried-out pots

another great way that makes the water absorb into the compost is put a tiny squirt of washing up liquid into the watering can- give it a stir with a stick- then water yoru hanging baskets and pots.  Harmless to the plants.

Cleve West winning Show Garden.  what are the yellow spires?  My re-creation was goingto have a path but too many gorgeous plants to use to bother with a path....

If you missed the programme and wondered what everone was on about, it is repeated on Sunday on ITV1 and ITV +1.

I think they should intermingle the shows with out of a hat who has there garden made over, not always the really sad story....

Hi Chrissie

i managed to pu t a short video on youtube on how to report an Olive tree- it took two days to laod but eventually.

You should be able to view it by typing into google - youtube repotting an olive tree gardeners world

Remember it is an amateur video, never done it before and had my galaxy tablet balanced on its end- so the vdieo looks like it was done through a postbox- i don't mind as it leaves me out of shot- only my arms and hands are visible.......

Happy Growing
