Good morning all Woke with a stuffed up head and coughing and sneezing - I'm blaming the physio's receptionist who was coughing and sneezing and moaning to someone on the phone about how awful she felt I might just spend the day drinking honey and hot lemon - the rest of the bulbs might have to wait "

One of the hoverfly tribe - possibly the Pellucid Fly http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/pellucid-fly
As for keeping the bumblebees happy - grow winter flowering shrubs and flowers to provide them with nectar on sunny days when they wake up.
I fell asleep on the sofa ........ woke up half an hour ago Good job I'd got everything prepped for the curry- it's simmering away now and OH will be home very soon ...
I'm probably one of the other twentynine then
The gods are moving the furniture upstairs here too - we also have the piddling down stuff as well.
Supper is all prepped and waiting in the kitchen, kettle is on and knitting bag is waiting for me on the sofa - anything good on the telly Fidget?
Now's the time of year to take hardwood cuttings. Lots of info here
For blueberries I would use ericacious compost with lots of added perlite.
Hi Katrina and welcome
Glad to say you have no need to panic - some bulbs do start early, but their rate of growth will slow to a virtual standstill as the nights draw in and the temperatures fall. You'll get your flowers in the spring - hope you'll show us some photos then
Euphorbia lathyris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphorbia_lathyris
it tend to pop up in newly disturbed soil. If you're pulling it up be careful not to get the white latex-type sap on your skin as it can cause burns.
Yesterday I picked the first ever pear from our espaliered Concorde - it's on the sideboard ripening - there are three more on the tree
Fidget - some loud noise woke me around 2.22am - now I know who to blame
