I would have thought that blanching soft fruit would make it go mushy and difficult to keep separate when freezing

I think the only answer is to cover them with insect-proof mesh or fleece throughout the growing season - a pain when it comes to weeding but otherwise no leeks

Chilli plants - keep or chuck and start again next year?

I have been overwintering chillies in a frost-free greenhouse for several years with some success (and some failures!). However, when they survive it does give you an early crop, much earlier than any seed-raised plants. If they drop their leaves don't worry. So long as the stems stay green they will re-shoot. You can cut them back, too, but leave about 20cm/8" of framework and keep the soil barely damp.

Is there any point in leaving my maincrop onions in as they have started to flower? I have picked off the flowers but wonder if they will get any bigger. Some are no larger than when they went in! I could use the space for something else as the allotment is full to bursting.
