Dead fruit Trees?

Posted: 29/04/2013 at 15:48

Hi Jan My Greengage looked unhappy last year the leaves and branches started browning very quickly and the fruit on it rotted very quickly around about the same time as yours. See my blog on this section named Greengage tree dated 22/4/13. I have 6 other fruit trees (7 altogether) and had an abundance of fruit from all of them. I think you need to do the scratch test on the branch and if it is still green underneath there is still life.

Thanks Stephen I do prune them once a year after all the fruit have been picked. When should they be pruned again.

Thank you I do pick them when they are still firm but they don't seem to ripen very well. Could try juicing, I have never tried that. I will try again to google and see if I can get any further info. Thank you all for your comments.

I have a conference pear tree in my garden but am never able to know when to pick them. They are either to ripe, (look good on the outside but rotten inside) or not ripe enough and never seem to ripen. Can any one advise me whether there is there a way of telling when these should be picked.

Cherry tree

I have 7 espalier fruit trees (3 apple, 2 pear 1 kent cob nut and 1 cherry tree) all planted about 10/11 years ago from a nursery. All but one gives me ample of fruit and that is the Cherry tree. I get plenty of blossom and plenty of fruit appear every year but when they get to about the size of peas 90% shrivel up and end up with just a handful of cherries. This has happened ever since I have had it. Every year I threaten that I am going to cut it down if I do not get any fruit from it. Can any one help please.
