One did have a small shoot. Trouble is it's a job to see them in the packet which is sealed.

Pound shop plants- any success stories?

Bought 2 rudbeckias from poundland some weeks ago, potted them up to help them on their way.  Waste of time, never came to anything.

Violets

I bought one small clump from the GC now they've spread all over the garden like a weed.  I think they must be dog violets as they have no scent.  A bit disappointed.

Anyone planted out their sweet pea seedlings?

My sweetpeas are about 3" tall, should they be taller than this before planting out? & should the tops be pinched off to encourage bushing?

Sick looking Weigela

Yes, Green Magpie, my skimmia is also large.  I don't think it's a problem with soil type as my other skimmia is quite happy, also, I have 2 large camellias growing not too far away & they are in full bloom. It could be it needs a good feed, anyway I'll give it a try.  Many thanks for everyone's help.

Sorry, I've got the wrong name. Looked through my gardening book, I think it's a skimmia.  It has small white flowers in spring & red berries in winter.  Does that make more sense?

Hi everyone.  My Weigela seems to be struggling.  The leaves are looking quite pale & they seem to be falling off, although it still has plenty of red berries.  Does it need a special feed? Thanks for any help.

How can I get my geraniums to grow this year?

Posted: 08/03/2014 at 17:27

Are we talking about hardy geraniums or pelagoniums? I grow both in my garden & they all do well.  My soil is slightly alkaline (camellias do well) but fairly clayey.  I don't know if this any help.

Funny bird behaviour

Talking about strange bird behaviour.  I've noticed each Spring for the last 3 years.  A bluetit keeps flying at my conservatory window (don't know how long they live, maybe it's they same one), it only happens in early spring.  I have a nest box on the wall close by.  I wondered if it's guarding the box prior to nesting.

Buying new secauters

I agree about cheap ones.  I've bought a pair from Poundland £1.  I've done nearly all my pruning (which is a lot) & they've worked well.  If they only last one season I'll be very pleased.
