Growing veg from supermarket

Posted: 29/09/2017 at 23:57

I've successfully grown butternut squash from the seeds from supermarket bought squash for a few years now.  Not tried anything else. Must admit in the last few years germination rates for some packet seeds have been really disappointing. Not sure what that's about.

DD, it's just wonderful to hear it's going so well and your dream has come true 😊  So heartwarming too that you've also enabled your Georgian lady to have a new start and have boosted her confidence in doing so. Fab!!

How wonderful Bob 😀

We've had a hog visiting us for a couple of months now and 2 nights ago couldn't believe it when it was joined by another one at our back door for the nightly visit to hog biscuits & water!  It would seem from the circling, stalking & much snuffling there's a mating ritual in progress!!  Crossing fingers for hoglets 😊

Couldn't believe our eyes this evening when we looked out to see not one but two hogs tucking into the hog biscuits 😊 not sure if they're mating, one seemed to be 'stalking' the other, fair bit of snuffling going on too!  Is it too late for breeding now?

DD, I've been following your journey with great interest and I have to say huge admiration.  Am thrilled for you that your dream of opening your tearoom is so close to fruition.  Just know it will be a great success. Bravo 😊  Have some lovely cake recipes if you ever need any.

Thanks Bob! Look like bumble bees so I guess we're very lucky to have them 😊 don't mind sacrificing a few parsnip seedlings for them!

Just noticed this thread and wondered if anyone has any advice.  We think we have a bees nest in the corner of one of our raised veg beds. Lots of bee activity there in last few days. I'm happy to have these bees in our garden but just bit concerned at how big the nest might get and don't want to disturb them too much. How long are they likely to stay?

If we ever manage to get that far I'll post them up 😊

Just seen our hog for first time in a couple of years 😊 so exciting! Lots of poop around the garden, put some some specialist hog food out (2nd night) and bingo!   Planning to build a hog house now with camera.  Love em!!
