Agree with nutcutlet, do keep an eye out for sawfly larvae - they can strip it to the bone in no time. But they're pretty forgiving, if I've missed the sawfly, I just cut the carcases down, and they pop up again next year. I've got some in deep shade, and some in dappled shade, neither soil is particularly moist,  all seem happy, and gently increase year on year.

Fingers crossed for the grapevine. I thought it might be haemhorrhaging, hence the pruning question. It might be worth seeing if there's any suitable healthy growth to take cuttings from.

Are they weeds or are they poppies?

I'd take a guess at meconopsis cantabrica, the yellow flowered welsh poppy. They do self seed very freely but I quite like them

Weigela in containers?

I've grown a variegatedweigeilia for years,in a large terracotta pot about 18" across obviously you won't need a container that large for your seedlings, but it was wn established shrub when I potted it.

I scrape off an inch or so of the compost, replace with fresh and scatter in a handful of dried chicken poo pellets every spring.

Make do and mend

They're also useful for nasal application when dispensing comfrey tea.

I call them snot fields because they set off my hay fever. But they are a cheerfull sight.
