Talkback: Growing Verbena bonariensis from seed

Posted: 14/05/2012 at 21:10
@twoshedgirl- no,I wouldn't pinch them out. The side shoots will go on to produce flowers of their own. V.bonariensis is by nature a tall slender plant.

What's happened to my brassicas?

I think the most likely culprits would be slugs, snails or mice. I'm sorry to say that I think you will need to sow some more seeds.

Also an iris lover. Have a bog standard blue jobbie out now, a clump of iris sibirica which will erupt in a month or so, and a happy clump of iris unguicularis which flowers through the winter. Never had much luck with bulb Dutch irises though.

I think this is a reflection of back office work going on with site maintenance. I have those probs intermittently on PC, but not on iPad. But on iPad, don't have full functionality re edit messaging, posting smileys/ pictures/ links to other websites. Still think it's a great site though.

@ Wintersong - I know just what you mean by diddling round for ages until you hit the right combo. I have a spot which just needs the perfect punctuation point, think I'm on version # 97 at the moment.

3 loads of washing out and dried. Finally potted on basil and cucumbers. Sowed Swiss chard, black and red Russian kale. Started hardening off courgettes, butternut squash, runner and climbing french beans. First roses out on Mme Alfred Carriere. Lots of wandering around in the sun making plans. Forecast for possible frost tonight (grrr!) so off to put cloches back on dwarf French beans. @inkadog - your friend grows some pretty impressive spinach!

Overwintered runner bans

Left the roots in after clearing last year's crop, they've survived the winter and putting up new growth.
