Are you gardening in a rural or built up area? Only asking because it might give some insight as to whether these are seed borne weeds. Do you have valerian growing near you? It might be helpful if you can pull up one of these mystery seedlings and post a pic of the root.

It does need to be well rotted before you use it. Big advantage with it is that it not only provides nutrients but improves soil structure. If I were you I'd go and have a chat with them.

I'm hoping for a drop of rain tonight as I've cleared half a dalek compost bin full of forget me nots and sprinkled cluck muck over the gaps. Loads of self seeded nigella will be happy for the space.

It could be that you are keeping them too moist. Have you been feeding them?

Or if you don't, pelleted chicken manure or blood, fish and bone are worth considering. Do you have composting facilities? Or access to well rotted manure?
