Problem with rose flower

Posted: 09/09/2014 at 16:29

Sometimes when a flower gets wet from lots of rain the outer petals can then dry out and become crispy stopping the flower from opening properly. If this is it you can remove the crispy outer petals and it should then open up

Sieving soil - compaction?

You can use the roots you sieve out to make something similar to a comfrey brew. Soak them in water until they become a stinky horrible sludge with all the roots rotted down so they can't regrow. These can then filtered out and put onto your compost heap, the liquid can be diluted and used as a plant food.

Cherry laurels grow in alkaline to acidic soils so I would just use the chicken manure pellets

Looks like my pink flowered jasmine too, the flowers are tiny and quite pathetic, I'm going to get rid of it. I've taken cuttings off my mother-in-law's 'Clotted Cream' Jasmine to replace it

Growing garlic

Did you leave the bulbs upside down to dry out before plaiting? Were the stems dry and brown when you plaited them?

You probably wouldn't have wanted to compost most of the weeds anyway especially if they contained weed seeds or perennial roots such as dock, dandelion, bindweed etc. It is possible that the allotment committee do this on over grown plots before new tenants take them on. A lot of the old school allotmenteers don't appreciate the organic concept

Use John Innes No.3 and add grit if the tree requires free draining soil

I have ordered pots from Scot Plants Direct but via Amazon. I got 1litre and 2 litre square/round pots. They were good quality.
