Are those grass seed heads coming from it? Looks like something that self seeded in my garden once, once it put up grass type flower heads I pulled it up

Do you mean Pelargoniums? If so I found the angel pelargoniums didn't get eaten. The leaves aren't as soft.

At my mum's church they don't cut they grass, they grow wildflowers instead.

Are you talking about bearded iris? The type with rhizomes on top of the soil? These are usually divided after flowering
