Garden Achievement

Posted: 07/03/2013 at 19:40
Hi Brumbull, hello everybody haven't been on the site for a little while, bin busy this week, just starting to slow down now. My achievement is that I enjoy gardening, up to a few years ago you wouldn't have gotten me near a garden except in a deckchair! Couldn't stand all those creepy crawlies and and all the other things you find in a garden, now some of them are my buddies, some I tolerate, others I politely acknowledge and side step. But all in all I think we all get on quite well, some achievement!!! I love going out into the garden with my shovel and wellies....bliss.

Depression and how gardening saved me

It's been good to share these things on the forum and to know that some of us have had breakdowns, depression, grief and whatever else and how gardening has been an instrument in healing and recovery, it's beautiful isn't it.

Hi lezdennis, I fully understand what you are talking about having come through maybe something similar to yourself. Gardening, which I only took up about five years ago has helped me so much. It has revealed a part of me that I never new existed. I feel I have grown and healed so much and it has been and continues to be a beautiful journey, and an ongoing healing for me. There is nothing like being in a garden, I just I love it all. It has opened up a whole new way of life to me.

I didn't realise it was the first day of spring today, but after having said that I think spring came for me inspite of the cold weather, more like winter today....maybe that's why I forgot. I have spent the afternoon sewing Cosmos seeds and now I have quite a few containers on my window ledge. Even though I live in a flat I do grow things and last year I was thrilled when I was able to successfully grow Cosmos seed. This morning when I was out I had my usual coffee and muffin and started planning in my mind some of the things I need to do in the garden that I look after, it was like the bulb of spring within me starting to unfold her petals and open up.
