Late Runner Beans

Posted: 07/09/2012 at 14:17

I planted my runner beans back in May and after a very tramatic start thanks to the slugs eating them they have grown really well and are really lush.  I have beans on them that are about 4 inches long and a lot more coming too.

As this is my first year at growing veg can I take it that they are late producing..is it ok just to leave them until they have finished producing beans.

Thanks

Hi I have had a hosta in the same tub for about 6yrs now, this year it only produced about 8 leaves and no flowers..Am I right in assuming that its probably potbound...Is it too early to repot  and split it.

Tomato Ripening

I saw on here(on the How To section ) that it is possible to ripen tomatoes just buy lifting them (the whole plant root and all) and hanging them upside down in a shed.....I will try this as well as the banana thing and see which is best.....

potatoes for the winter

Thanks for your comments.....This is my first year too, I had some Charlotte potatoes at the end of July (grown in bags) and I've just unearthed Maris piper (also grown in bags) not a great lot of potatoes but enough to keep us going for a couple of weeks or so..alot were still quiet small so I think I should have left a few more weeks but as its my 1st year its all a learning curve this year.

I've had lots of courgettes and some peas a few pepers, onions lots of tomatoes, some cabbages too.  And have growing in deep pots (2ft deep) carrots, leeks and parsnips all seem to be doing well..

The purple sprouting brocilli got eaten by those pesky slugs..tut

My runner beans got off to a bad start thanks to the slugs but they have grown really well and now have beans starting to grow,I have a feeling they are late this year as I seem to remember my bro-in-law had all of his by the end of August.

we are loving having home grown veg to eat...
