I like to see blackthorn(sloes) in blossom that is lovely but for a display laburnum, saw a fantastic example at a cottage we stayed at in Wales, the long golden chains were stunning. Also I have Tamarisk in a hedgerow and that to  looked good.Hawthorn is another.

Inherited pear tree help

Posted: 31/12/2012 at 17:02

I tie a cease band round the fruit trees to stop pests (namely ants) spreading diseases and I try to avoid spraying with chemicals,(soapy water is as far as I like to go)and good pruning helps ,(dead wood and cross over branches e.t.c.).

Why did you all start gardening?

Posted: 31/12/2012 at 16:53

I think I was influenced by watching my mother doing her garden and her love of plants,I started my first garden in 1971  and it just grew from there.I just love being able to be outside creating my own bit of land ,failings and all, and I have to thank all those who inspired me and gave advice and all those that still do.
