Talkback: Hedgehogs and foxes

Posted: 19/02/2013 at 18:48

here in Bristol we had a abundance of wildlife but Hedgehogs have not been seen for along time.I use to have them in the garden all the time but I think and only my opinion is that a lot of the gardens here have been graveled or tarmac ed over and houses pushed in every space. The Traffic slaughtered a lot and the last ones i saw in the road were a few years ago.I can find no evidence of them in my garden,(use to find droppings)for ages,in fact about 2 years.sad times.

Schools

why leave everything to teachers ,if you are a family learn together its not difficult and people might just find it fun with youngsters.leave schools to do what they do best .

what can I put in compost

Posted: 18/02/2013 at 19:18

In the compost you can put any greens and tea bags, coffee, weeds(after drowning in bucket of water)any green stuff, grass, straw, hay, sticks (must be chopped up) anything really cardboard, newspaper.do not put sawdust or fresh chopped bark in as it needs to be in a separate bin for about a year before you use ,leaves collected in autumn should be put in separate pile or bag (kept damp for a year) the thing to avoid is cooked food or meat  as this

I have  a Gunnera (grown in a pot so as not to get out of control) if you have a big enough garden willow as it will drink up that soggy ground (I had one and it did just that but alas i had to small a garden).

Climbers

clematis or honeysuckle, montana's grow quickly and don't need much attention except for control of spread or even  a rambling rose .you could if not wishing to use a pot knock out a pocket to put the plant in.(I have done this by front door where I have a rambling rose and a clematis.)
