squirrel shot for coming to the table.

I believe and I will stand corrected if wrong, that you are not allowed to shoot near a footpath or road ,it has to be 150 feet away, something like that.I remember coming into conflict with a shooting party near a path I was walking with the dog and a bullet whistling passed my ear!

Feeding Birds / Protecting your plants

Posted: 28/01/2013 at 12:27

I have seen for fruit or veg a good cadge that surrounds the plot of land ,nothing can get in bird or animal wise ,expensive but good for a small plot, birds dont bother me with the fruit ,even the current bushes as there always seems enough and they pick off the caterpillers and slugs.

Rockery plants

its so hard when you have clay soil as drainage for the rockery plants is essential,I have tried but have had not much success,I did have snow on the mountain but that has gone, but the thrift is doing OK as long as I leave it alone.

I am glad the snow has gone but the floods have started, still lets hope spring is round the corner and no one says anything about needing water because of a drought! going out to what the damage is!

Safe species for a tall hedge in high density housing estate?

Posted: 28/01/2013 at 11:31

if dense housing you will need a hedge you can keep trimmed easily and not come into conflict with other neighbours.A Hawthorn Hedge can be good if kept trimmed at a reasonable height ,any hedge will become a problem if not looked after ,but you need to consider containable varieties, privet can be smart and right but not if it gets out of control, look for small leaf shrubs .

feeding houseplants

Make sure you water in winter once a month and feed when and if spring starts about once a month, they like even in winter to be misted, and cut of any dead off spring and leaves.

Best type of bird feeder for a city garden?

Posted: 25/01/2013 at 17:07

I have a pole with a seed feeder and suet holder and fat ball holder in the middle of the garden and a bird table, now they all prefer the shed roof, because they can see the enemy coming, smaller birds prefer the seed cadge near a bush or tree ,so as they can escape the sparrow hawk.We have squirrels but they are no problem here in this city.
