Lychee problem

Posted: 08/12/2013 at 22:59

I fond a lychee seed rooting in my food disposal box, so planted it. It took a while for a pair of leaves to survive and grow large. The first few withered before they were recognisable as leaves. The first pair were large when a second pair opened and grew. (first picture),

However now one of them is showing signs of being eaten from within. The hole is getting visibly bigger everyday.(second picture).

Any ideas what is causing the  leaf damage and anyone got any expertise in growing lychees from seed that they could share with me.

Ta for all responses. Izzy is right, it is Impatiens niamnianensis. We will mollycoddle it all winter and if it survives will post some photos of it in early spring.

Thanks again.

Ta for all your responses. It's not Lobster claw. Have one of these. I will try to make the first pic clearer.

Hi. This plant was grown from A seedling which came with other seedlings from EBay. Think it may be a bird of paradise but flowers are different. More like a shiny parrot's beak. Any ideas?

I'll go with your advice re Cistus and prune back in spring. I'll move lobster claw to a more sheltered spot and see what happens. Ta for your advice.

I'll try enlarging the pics and repost. The top one is a rock rose - Cistus x caebaeiensis. Other is a lobster claw - Clianthus Puniceus.
