Kerria japonica 'simplex' Kerria

Overall: We have an acre landscaped garden on various shrubs, trees and hedges we have lichen. We are being told this will not harm the plants, I do not agree with this as parts of the shrubs that are affected have died and the hawthorne hedge is looking very sick. The magnolia stelata was covered two years ago, I took the jetwash to it to remove lichen which worked, that year and we had a good show of blooms again, unfortunately it's back with avengence.
