onion help needed!

I planted onion sets in the winter.  They now seem to be forming flower heads even though the onions are still very small. What should I do?  Am I meant to cut off the flower head to stop all energies going into that?

holiday watering in greenhouse

Glad you took me up on the idea.  We are using ours on automatic 4 times a day for 10 minutes each time.  Thats to do our gro-bags and all our cucumber plants in pots.

Repairing old wooden greenhouse

If youv'e the time to spare it might be best to take it to pieces and check each panel for rot.  We bought a second hand Alton greenhouse last year which looked immaculate until we got the panels home.  The first place to go is usually the bottom edge of panels and the timbers which rest on your concrete supports if you have any.  We used the cuprinol system to repair our panels, cutting out all signs of rot and refilling.  It was a long and messy job but we are now the proud owners of a fantastic greenhouse which looks far newer than the 20 years old it actually is.

I know its not what you were looking for but we have just bought a Hozelock Pro automatic watering kit.  It has a timer on it and will do 20 containers.  The other good thing about it is that you can buy all the extras right down to little packs of drip nozzles and stakes.  Seems to be working really well so far.

tomato plant spacing

Can someone please advise me on how to space my tomato plants. I have put 3 plants per gor-bag and lined up the gro-bags directly next to each other lengthwise, giving 3 rows of plants. I have put them in my greenhouse and fitted a drip feed system. I am now worried that they are too close having read several posts elsewhere on the web. At the moment they are looking very healthy and have got several trusses of flowers per plant. I have a mixture of plants ranging through sunbaby, gardeners delight, roma, marzano and marmande.
