Hello forkers

Well what a lot of digging I have done ended up uncovering a large hole with lots of lime bricks in under ground was about 1/2 metre deep thought maybe there was a lime kilm there once - not sure though

took some pics - ended up filling it in only want to plant in top area hope it will be fine for the plants

when I was planting my apple tree right near by the area a year before last I had to dig out loads of lime bricks right where I wanted the tree to be - so must have been something with all those bricks

Planted out a few phlox and hebe from Woody plant sale and a large stipa gigantea which I got from Stansted garden show - so Verdun will need advise for what to do with it in winter/ spring re cutting it or not?

Found a tin of metal paint in the garrage pinched a bit as dad's, but he has had it a long time - painted old bbq so now dark green not rusty will be used for a bird water table/bath

Fidgebones it is all knackering this digging mallarky, me prepared area for plants so that will be more digging yet to do

Woody - your broad beans on the plants are getting bigger in the garden looking good

My runner beans in root trainers - I sowed a while back have not germinated at all so will so some direct at bottom of canes - mine normally go anticlock wise up the canes

What a great strawberry planter you have Loganberry Hut

My raised bed strawberry planter is planted now.

Been meaning to upload pics of my pallet project compost bin

Here is on for you Edd thanks for idea

started as a pallet

with wider gaps

sawed up the size I wanted

added small bits of wood down the sides so that each part would stay together, made a frame and put into a box

used all the off cuts of wood from making this and from other pallet projects to fill the sides in - trying to make the bee hive look, nailed it together

Screwed all the box together with a bit of help with holding, made an extra rim to help the lid sit on something

started to make the roof of the box - only one piece of pallet wood was big enough for the triangle ends, so hard to saw with a hand saw  trying to get the right size and along the lines - I had drawn on. cut side bits of wood to join the triangles together

Cut up bit of left over fence planks for the roof

Here is the inside lined with compost bags cut up (black side) and nailed into place

Here it is in place and painted maple leaf green Cuprinol garden shades and the lid painted in stay new paint to keep clear paint to keep it looking like wood

Yes, Fidget, all doing well.  The acanthus has a flower spike on it.

In all this heat the hanging baskets had done a bit of a flop, so had to go round watering everything.

Bed for me now, Nite all.

Hello all, been a day of planting up hanging baskets with lots of plants that were bought at Stansted Show.

Got to be a nice, sunny weekend for the Garden Show.  Went on Friday and Sunday as it was so good.  Had a two day pass.

Managed to get a few plant bargains £1.00 for 6 bedding plants and odd bulbs thrown in for buying so many.

Yesterday I went around garden cut all grass areas with mower, then did 5 buckets of shredding with shredder, later as I got two grow bags delivered from milk and more by the milkman - I planted up the dahlias so all outside now, fed the plants in baskets and sweet peas and fed the birds - got so knackered by time I had read the all the posts

Been cleaning out wormery today some nice compost in bottom layer which was good as not looked at it for ages - top layer mucky so gone in bin with the big slug buggers, think I will buy all the kit and start it from fresh this year

Hello all

Been half day of volunteering at Sholing valley study centre today - litter picking around Millers pond then got to have a nice lunch cake and rolls

Later on when home sorted out moving large boulders in the front garden and re arranging the size of the border, planted out a few plants which is good, helps get the plants that need planting down - before next weekend when it is off the Stansted garden show   when I will be buying more plants as still need more plants for areas in the garden and inspiration too and lots of other bits

Has been a very warm day had the sun cream on today

now the peeps that collect slugs what do you do with them?  is it bag them and bin them?

Need some more plant ID's please
