Allotment Wars- BBC1 Tuesday 22nd January

Posted: 23/01/2013 at 23:23

Just watched this, I enjoyed it interesting things that go on at allotments - people stealing carrots - they must have wanted to win the show. Shame that some people are mean I don't think I could stay on that plot where the bloke got evicted - not nice  -  you would feel like you need to go somewhere else as it would not be enjoyable gardening.

I guess it is a one-off, would be interesting to see more programmes a bit on that I think.

I garden at home and I would not want people breaking stuff in my garden, it  would be horrible, not nice.

Do people have problems like that at their allotment?

I suppose others do get jealous of what you grow, and if entering a competition want their's to win.

Seed swap

Has anyone got there seeds yet? or are they delayed by post and weather.

The programme Life in a cottage garden with Carol Klein that was on Friday showed how to collect seeds - so will have a go at a bit more seed collecting with plants in the garden.

small bird watch

Lots of starlings in my garden. I guess bird watch will be misleading with the cold weather. Don't want it to be this cold next week as have to try and count the birds for an hour outside as can't quite tell what they are from the house.

Can you count the birds from inside the house and tell what they are?

Extra veggie growing space!

Hello Christine Cantello

Do you have space in your own garden to grow vegetables as well as the space your neighbour is giving you?

Your neighbour is nice to give you a greenhouse and a bit of garden, sounds great they get there garden looked after and don't have to do any of the hard work.

What are you planning on growing in that space? Is it to be shared with your neighbour anything you grow?

Maybe try and grow some flowers for cutting, or to attract the bees for your veg.

Whats your plans for the garden this year?

I had to pop out and feed the birds in it - some fat balls and remove some snow off my raised bed covers as pulling them down not good, 4" of snow here.

I did use my wintertrax shoe grippers so not to slide over. poor birds not nice in this weather, all squirrels not out yesterday.

Today maybe watch birds out window as well as a few bits to check outside and knock the snow off not to destroy any plants by breaking them. I think the starling birds out fighting over the food.

That sounds an interesting way of posting seeds

Seeds are up

That sounds a good lot of seeds you have sown, getting a chill now definitely all stuff in garden in the snow here. I keep turning my seedlings as keep facing the light from the window and some more keep coming up. I guess seeds decide when they want to appear. So they don't all pop up at once.

Hello all

I must say can't do much in the garden at the minute - even though I wanted too here's a picture of the garden

DougB what a nice allotment you have to start with, good plans - I use that website but not done mine yet for this year.

Busy-Lizzie your allotment looks like you grow a nice lot of veg well done.

I do not have an allotment just grow veg and flowers right at the bottom of the garden as have made some raised beds to grow it all in.
