May be I will try cuttings -  if the flowers don't make seeds I will not be able to collect them.

Tracysshed - you should be able to sow petunia from seed if you make sure they are dry first, then they should grow ok I think.

How big do you think cuttings would need to be?

Would you put them outside or indoors?

Hello all

Just wondering can you collect seeds from a flower bouquet (cut flowers)?      Some in the house (not mine) but they might just get wasted if they go in the bin.

How do I go about doing this?

Do I need to cut the flowers of the stem and them dry them out - not even sure if this would work, can seeds be collected from cut flowers, there are some nice chrysanthemums and some others flowers.

Can anyone help me please?

I had a look around garden today few more plants starting to grow a bit more -amazing must be the temperature here as well, the primroses some look like they might flower earlier than before, shame about your gargoyle thing.

Do you have a front and back garden?  So you could put your present on show or nicely in the plants.

Just have to keep looking around the garden I guess to see what has grown a bit more.

New Years Day flower count

Hello nutcutlet

I got garden news paper and in it Clare Foggett the editor does a new years day flower count, things in flower are coronilla valentina glauca, geranium 'bill wallis', anthemis 'sauce hollandaise' erysimum 'bowles's mauve', cream and mauve bedding violas and the buds of viburnum bodnantense 'dawn' are very close to opening. she said there were more flowers last year even though she has added more to the garden.

Have not heard about the flower count till being on GW forum

I am a bit like that nutcutlet, I am a bit fussy. Easier if they are in pots better to put in the right place in the garden, than them rooting in the ground not so easy to move then.

Seeds are up

That's good Sam are your seeds indoors they must be fast seeds - mine not shown themselves yet but has not been that long I suppose since I sowed them same day but different seeds. I do have cuttings that I took of cornus dogwood red indoors that seems to be in leaf but no signs of roots yet only done about 3 weeks ago in plastic cup - don't know if they should be somewhere cooler to root. Any one know?

That's good hollie hock glad you got the cuttings, can I ask what to do with the false sunflower when it arrives?  Do I put it outside in some compost in a pot or in the ground, or does it need to be indoors for a while.

I think my green fingers are failing me

Try going in bags may be its the soil - runner beans less fussy

Have you tried to grow potatoes in bags?
