Seed swap

I would try to move the foxgloves, viola and maybe the iris and crocosmia not sure about the others - some of them might be ok to move as flower later. If that helps

When is gardeners world back on the TV??

Posted: 07/01/2013 at 16:53

I watched Carol Klein Life in a Cottage Garden before enjoyed it so will watch it again.

Gardeners World does feel like a long time away, but will be watching the A to Z of gardening programmes - 25 weeks thats good- I like the first one, that is the right time to put gardening show on TV as GW not on yet but I guess they can't show much in winter as not much they want to do outside.

Dogwood Cuttings

Thanks Caz W how much of a annual chop back do you give it? I have only cut mine back a little for cuttings. Will try doing cuttings in a bucket of water like the sound of that way - going about cuttings.

Nutcutlet I guess if you cut the dogwood it would make a straight plant, My dogwood near a fence so only collects it own leaves really.

Mine are indoors in plastic cups starting to get leaves, moved to a bit cooler area so roots might appear, not done cutting before of dogwood normal red type - I do like the midwinter fire one nice yellow, red and orange  - nice in winter when no leaves.

When was it you took the cuttings Caz W I would like to try that way.

That's all right Sam if you have more seeds you can sow more later on.

Hello Bradders2

I would try a bit of both as some time compost dries out quicker

can you save seeds from cut flowers?

Posted: 06/01/2013 at 17:48

I would try late Feb very early March but start off on a window sill or in a greenhouse somewhere warm ish - to make seeds start. I have tried petunia from seed packet before they take a while to grow large enough to transfer to bigger pots.  Keep the slugs away from them.
