Ideas for an old bird box

Posted: 25/04/2014 at 17:17

Make into a bee home, keep it how it is put on the ground or fence but not so high up.

I put up a bird house under a tree and I saw a bee go in the hole so maybe a bee home it will keep them dry still good for wildlife

Edd I know the HT is heat-treated so that is good no chemical but for the numbers I don't know, I had wood chipped blocks on one pallet easy to get apart with hammer and crowbar.

I am looking forward to the pics Edd

Thanks artjak

I have added the liner of the strawberry planter

Hello all, have had busy day putting up the hanging baskets I did at the workshop the other day, and re-arranging other pots.  Planted up a couple of senetti's, aubrietia and broom into a container.  Found two pondskaters on the pond.

Sorted out a few more containers ready for the new plants that will follow me back home from Woodgreen on Saturday at Woodys plant sale.

See you tomorrow.  Night all.

Evening all, just been catching up.  Went to Hilliers Creative Container talk and workshop where I made up two of my hanging baskets with free compost.  Also HAD to buy a new pot and make up an alpine arrangement, (the talk was that good!)   That's reminded me of you, Woody. (alpines)

Many others joined us and did the same containers as the speaker.  Will post pics later.

Hello all here is my pics

From this a pallet

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42795.jpg?width=547&height=350&mode=max

I took the planks off moved them next to each other and sawed it smaller

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42796.jpg?width=273&height=350&mode=max

Left the blocks on, -  with all the blocks I have been collecting from other pallets

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42797.jpg?width=273&height=350&mode=max

I decided to stack them make them into the legs

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42798.jpg?width=273&height=350&mode=max

Sawed up some planks left over and used them to join the legs together with clamps and lots of nails put in, wanted all the blocks level at the front and back view of the bench

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42799.jpg?width=547&height=350&mode=max

Nailed them together to the bench top which had the 1st block joined to the top so 6 blocks attached in six places

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42800.jpg?width=273&height=350&mode=max

This is how it ended up looking then I sanded it down

http://s4.gardenersworld.com/uploads/images/original/42801.jpg?width=273&height=350&mode=max

Using the coarse sanding block in pic above. - that is the saw I have been using on all the pallet projects

This is how it looks now painted Cuprinol garden shades summer damson,  I wanted to not paint the blocks so it still had a bit of the pallet look

In the picture is the strawberry planter painted maple leaf green still need to sort the liner out yet and buy the compost

Hello all

Been day of planting plants around pond so bits of digging and putting plants in and pulling dried ivy off the tree, I even planted some large boulders stones around edge

I was so EXCITED there is a newt in the pond only put a few pond plants in yesterday late - was given to us from next door a week ago - as they will be re doing there pond, think when I was digging around edge something went into the pond (plop noise) need to add more plants so green water goes away

Was cloudy and dry but bit windy and cold ish

oh and 2 butterflies have hatched from the mesh on my raised bed, saw a cute mouse eating off my bird feeder went to get the bird food and ratty has eaten my pack of fat balls in the garage even though I was putting food in a pot for ratty
