small bird watch

Posted: 27/01/2013 at 20:09

Hello all

I done my RSPB bird watch today and I am sure when ever I do this there is less birds for me to count, the birds seam to be hiding - not as many as I do see normally, nice lot of bird noises when I was sitting out trying to count them, may be bit windy today here for them or they knew I was out there even though keeping still, I think blue tits I saw the most of 4 at once. Did see a Jay and squirrels and even a woodpecker I forgot to take my camera out with me may be another time try and take a photo of them.

What birds did you see the most of?

I can send you both, if you want them both that's fine just say, I will send the beetroot to you as well - good if someone can use the seeds -  nice to seed swap

Hello Sam did you want any of those seeds I listed I could send them to you, I dont mind not swapping so they can be used by someone.

I forgot to list Kings seeds - Leeks- Musselburgh and Kings Leek - Jolant.

Swapped these so dont have them now  Garden News Mag - Terry Walton's Leek Musselburgh, Mr Fothergill's  Cress - American Land, - I still have the rest listed if anyone wants them

Have swapped a lot of seeds and had a long day, after the potato day at Whitchurch Hampshire

So If anyone wants the seeds on list on my post before but does not have anything to swap that is fine, I will send them out to you if you say what you want.

Good carrot for containers

Posted: 25/01/2013 at 16:15

It might be better to grow a fast crop carrots as autumn king is a main crop so in the ground for longer may be try Nantes ones (frubund) or Amsterdam forcing. I did not have luck with carrots slugs eating them and the ones in pots not big about 1- 2 Cm's very small. will try again though with fast crop in pots.

Faster grown carrots should turn out better because harvest quicker. If that helps you

Hello all

Thompson & Morgan- Courgette - Venus F1 Hybrid

Garden News Mag - Terry Walton's Leek Musselburgh

Mr Fothergill's-  Rocket

2013 End seeds pack - Beetroot - Boltardy

2014 End seed pack - Lettuce -  All the year round, Cress - American Land

Still have home collected Honesty seeds - purple flowers and Pony tail grass seeds

Anybody want to swap?  I am interested in flower seeds

Wildlife friendly pond

Posted: 24/01/2013 at 21:45

Our pond we dug out an area - put a  pond liner down filled with water and we put old carpet around the edge which got wildlife in as trees grew and are now at one side of the pond from the carpet, which brings in the birds in with the bird feeders in them.

If you build it he will come -  a saying from that film - field of dreams, which is what happened with our pond we had oxygen plants in it and we got frogs, pond skaters and newts that came from around some where.
