Stacey, funnily enough we did get them from a car.  It was through freecycle, which is where people get rid of things they no longer want for free, (you just have to pick them up).  These were still on the rims.

We also got some tyres from a garage that changes tyres, they have to pay to get rid of them so welcome anyone who wants them to take them away.  These ones come without the rims and you can choose any size you like.  These are easier to turn inside out to make the planters.  You need ones with soft sides as these turn well.

Nutcutlet you may be able to work it out from my other thread, drawn shape wrong way so will end up looking like a flower when cut out if not you end up with points and then when turned inside out the tyre is much bigger

watch this

Hello ro3 - I have not painted the tyre planters, you can use masonry paint to paint them and a brush

here is an update of the tyre planters done

this one was done on Saturday planted up with daff and tulips and crocus

these ones were just weeded and covered with more dirt

It was me chicky I was the one cutting them up with a stanley knife after I figured out how to do it, drawing around a plate to shape the petals

Here is the thread I did before for you all to look at

Hello and Evening Forkers

Me knackered today having a rest day

Yesterday dug up and sorted a pile of dirt and compost out for the new tyre planter for the station and took up the station, skateboarded it down the slope , well with some plants and bulbs and all the dirt, cleared the litter away as well

It was a sunny day quite warm it did feel like spring

Here is the tyre before

and here it is all planted up with daffs and tulips and crocus

next door to the one done last year

Sorted all the other tyre planters out, weeded and added nice lot of dirt to make them look better and added some bulbs
