Is it me?

I think you are right, Obelixx. I learned on another thread that the programme is recorded a month ahead and, because Monty does not want the whole prog made from his garden, other presenters do not record from there. There must be quite a lot of splicing together after recording.

I really like Joe Swift, who is getting a bad press on this forum. I don't like all his ideas, but he does teach me things and make me think. I heard him interviewed, can't remember whether it was at Shrewsbury or Malvern, and I found him interesting and likeable.

Hellebore flowers

Thanks for the info, Verdun and Nutcutlet. I should perhaps have mentioned that these young hellebores have only been in the ground a few days and are not established.

is will you use the extra hour next weekend

Me too, Verdun.  Just as well, since nobody ever gives me any. Think they take one look at my girth and decide to give me flowers...

I love a chat and spend far too long on some threads. The Fork Handles thread does defeat me. People look as though they are having a lot of fun there, though.

  Me too, Verdun.

can you save seeds from cut flowers?

Posted: 01/04/2013 at 09:08

This fascinating, something that has never occurred to me to do. I always wish people had given me garden plants rather than cut flowers that will only last a week or so. I have some cut chrysanthemums at the moment (at this time of year!) and will try to take cuttings. Thanks so much, Sam!

Hellebore flowers

If the flowers are cut off before they go to seed, will the hellebore produce more, as many other plants would?

As has been said, hellebores do droop  badly if they are very cold, but they do stand up again. Young plants do seem to droop longer than more mature ones. They like to be damp at the roots and in this area, it hasn't rained (amazingly) for a few days. I'm watering my young plants, especially where the soil is free-draining.

Have to admit, I've called children 'kids' all my life, perhaps because I used to tease classes with affectionate insults involving this word. Sounds horrible when I write it down, but if kids..er...pupils like and trust you, it raises a smile and warms up the atmosphere. This was when I was not breathing fire. Then I called them other things!

Seems to me that the reason that parent/toddler spaces are near the door is that young families spend more than older people, on average, and so supermarkets are (obviously) keen to attract them.
