Compost bins - tips welcome!

Posted: 11/05/2013 at 11:58

we built two out of pallet and an old shed.. they have lift up fronts to get it out and lids to keep the heat in.. we turn it regularly and empty one each year.. gone in veg bed this year.. then turn the other one into that and start filling the empy one.. has taken 2 years to get the cycle going but now its up and running it is great..

get compost for post, mulch and veg.. throw in paper, veg peelings, toilet roll tubes, and garden waste. it is good idea to minimum of two going if possible

i have found they dont like fircones much.. so gather them up round my hostas and they dont go near them.. i also painted the tops of my raised flower/veg beds with black bitchamen (not sure on spelling) paint and they wont go over it at all. i do not like to use chemicals in my garden if i can help it..

Perennial Foxglove?????

Posted: 07/05/2013 at 13:17

i have had some perennial foxgloves in my garden for some years now.. and i bought some more of ebay last year.. now i dont remember the name but they have creamy yellow flowers in the same shape as normal foxglove flower but only stand 18ins tall..

these have come back year after year for the fourth time now.. they die down over winter.. the first year i thought they had died,.. but mum said give htem time. and they did shoot again end of spring.. and have done each year now.

i have now seeded some for more plants and they have grown well this year..

so maybe these might... come up
