Garden Gallery 2013

Posted: 08/10/2013 at 10:56

so we hve been busy starting to lay new front garden path.. i have added some pics of before and now..

this picture was some years ago.

this shows the start of the path.. it is 18 metres long.. the border at the top is the start of one.. has we had to  move some plants from down the bottom of the path borders.. as we have made the path twice as wide.. and cant carryon until they  were moved.. we had to break up old path as it had sunk by 1 foot.. use the borken up path as rubble and then conrete to the leve and then laying bricks and slabs with 6mm gravel infill.. its getting there buthard work..

Dangers in your compost

Posted: 03/10/2013 at 11:05

i thought it was sterilized fidget????

so then gardeners world are now going to start wearing gloves and highlight this risk to those are not so knowledgable about composts etc?

i always wear gloves and dig my fingernails into soap before hand to stop dirt.. i keep my compost in big old black dustbin.. ao it keeps moister anyway..

but it is scary but then on other hand.. compost has been round long time and it would be nice if they told us what brand these people effected used..

and yes verdun you are right.. many people dont wash their hands for the whole day.. i wsh mine regularly and make my kids also.. maybe that is why me never catch teh stomach bugs that go round the school all the time..

i cn honestly say that i have beenhere for 12 years and only had fieldfare once when heavy snow came.. never had red wing etc. visit

used to get finches alot but they have also declined in my garden.. lots of sparrows house, hedge and tree, loads of starlings, two robins who are here all year round. once keeps me company in the potting shed.. so cute

one pair of blackbirds that dont let much else feed on the ground when they are here.. funny to watch them get rid of others.. 2 thrushs, but no song thrush.. and some dunnocks and loads blue tits, long tail tits and wrens..

love feeding my birds they are my pets..

i have one in my garden.. i think the nemotode for slug and snail erradication hasnt helped... i throw my snails out on my path for them to eat.. rather than killing them outright.. soon get cleared up.

we hve house martins every year before they set off.. ducking and diving for bugs over the cliff edge.. and at times come right above your head... move very fast so hard to get a picture..

it would me too flirt.. our one next door used to be  out at 12 at night barking.. at the foxes they said.. well tell it to shut up i said.. and all day whenever it heard people walking along the coastal path.. not now with the sonic device.. well unless it goes into back garden.. too far away for it to work.. but doesnt bark much when round the back.. so much better.
