@Mike.. having met Monty this year when he did talk at Ventnor Arts week..I can assure u he has been thru the wars.. to see his garden and house as a overgrown fields and the house a ruin.. he has worked hard to get to where it is.. and with only himself and his wife and sons who help do the garden.. and with hard work and slaving to make money to pay for it.. as he said he was lucky got a break on This Morning show.. and then moved on.. but for many now.. they dont have that change to shine for all to see.
He skill as a speaker and writer are amazing.. due to the love of what he is talking about.. gardening and growing.. he loves the soil...he had the audience spell bound for near on 2 hrs.. then had pleasure to meet and chat afterwards.. and a humble man he is indeed. no airs or graces or claims to be expert.. just a simple man who loves gardening .. and which has helped him over come his stroke... his boys built his reading shed.. as that was as far as he could walk from the house out afterwards.. and so it began..
As for the show.. indeed he has not much say at all.. he told us.. he had to alter all his paths and many others things to be able to film.. much of which he really didnt want to do.. he has to be and stand where they want him and when they want him and to show what they want.. he does not have much control at all.. as per the gardens of the world.. the researchers chose them.. he just had to present them.. and some of the missed ones he would have liked to gone to..
And for Nigel.. he says he gets all the fame and fan mail.. and love hehe.. has gone to his head Monty said..
To meet the man.. is to understand the man.. he is a wonderful down to earth gardener who loves it with all his heart and soul.. never happier than many of us.. than in the garden from dawn to dusk.. if allowed.
