Comfrey?

Posted: 01/05/2013 at 08:48

i have some in my garden.. and yes it is pretty.. and the bees do love it.. so as i am a keen wildlife gardener i will keep it and control it..

can you tell me does it have a preference wot where it is .. or can it tolerate anywhere in the sun, shade, poor or good soil..

Talkback: Mullein moth

i agree lovemoths.. there is no need to spray them.. i get them ever year as i love verbascums also.. so i just collect them all up and move them to three plants i planted in garden just for them, in with the veg bed.. so they cant harm the others in my front flower beds.
i grow plants and flowers that encourage bees and butteflies and all manner of british wildlife into my garden.. as monty says there is always a way for both of us to be in our gardens together where we both benefit.. to see the spray that are killing our bees now being banned, to protect them, and then read this, its terrible.
all wildlife should be supported in a way that helps both them and the gardener, the suggestion of total obliviation breaks my heart.

Can anyone tell me what this is plese...

ok thanks figrat.. will keep eye on it..

veggiepatch1.. many thanks for the info.. thought only teh large comfrey made liquid feed. so well pleased to know that. so how long do i leave the leaves stewing.. and in cold water or warm.. sorry never done it before..  and i will cut it down andput some under my beans which i hope to plant out in few weeks as they just coming through now.

yes the bees are loving it.. so really will keep it.. but will keep it in check.. will do as you say.. am making note in my garden book now.

the mildew problem is fine as my lungwort suffers that also.. so just cut it back all the time so one more plant ot do wont be a problem.. thank you all so much for your replies.

chicky.. they are not a weed.. they were once given to a loved one or someone going away as a reminder of the giver.. hence the name "forget-me-not" and i love the story and the romance that goes with it i am a softy at heart really.

@ lalino.. thank you.. i cant grow anything up the trellis fencing... it is there as the wind howls across our garden up over teh cliff edge.. which in  that picture is just 40ft metres from the top end panel you can see.. so anything growing up it would cause the fence to come down continously.. as my neighbour with their 7ft panel one keeps finding out each winter. basically i have my front wall the 5ft wide coastal path and then the cliff edge other side of that..

the little blue flowers are forget-me-nots... i love them.. they always add colour this time of year and look great with the red and yellow polyanthus.

Wintersong.. your garden looks lovely as always..

palaisgalide.. the flat cap info was i.. and i never thought of using one to my advantage.. great idea as i ranted about tailgaters.. hve my dear old grandads old one in the keepsake box.. will get it out next tiem go out for a sunday drive

Mummy. i also now change my car insurance every year.. i used to be with the same one for years and years.. but they were getting far to expensive.. and i hardly use my car (2000 a year now) so i do the compare sites and got the best one for me.. not always the cheapest but the best one.. first time i did this the old company when i rang to cancel asked why and how much i was now going to pay.. so i proudly told them some 150 less then them a year. and the girl  replied "oh.. just let me look and see if i can do anything better than that for you now" i replied.. "no sorry your too late.. should have quoted your best price in my renewal quote, i have now changed over, please cancel it" they were not too happy.. but hey!

blackest.. many thanks for those links..

any help would be great thanks.. all i know is it spreads fast and can be divided easily by just chopping up..

i am sure it is not comfrey ans doesnt grow tall enough
