warm sunny and humid.. not a breath of air wanywhere..

its gonna be hot one

it may have been birds.. i say this as i left tray of potted up plants on my table.. and next day all the pots were up and the plants were out and right mess everywhere

i think it was the pigeons fighting.. as htey do that alot here.

and if they got in the water it is amazing how it can be emptied after a flurry like that..

and they left nasty scratch marks all over my cars bonnet paint work after as well..

Rat problem

they are a problem.. live near railway line and always about and ruddy large ones too.

we use bait and air rifle.. take a shot and they dont come back for some time..

if you have composter then bang it every day as they dont like noise and leave it open to get rained on.. as they dont like it very wet either.

if you are on benefits you can get the rat trap man to come in and do it for free or for a fiver i neighbour had them in few years back and they trapped ours too.. said if you take out a colony it will take 3 years for them to build up again.

astrantia from seed

Posted: 11/06/2013 at 15:42

cotty.. i have struggled for some years to grow them.. but last year i harvested a load of white seeds and a colour i do not know as pinched seed head form osbourne house gardens and they have all grown.. have over 35 young healthy plants.

so each time i have tried differenct ways to get them to seed..

this time i sowed them in a tray soon after harvesting.. let them dry out for bit then seeded. kept htem in my greenhouse and kept moist.. and checked on them regularlay.. they stayed in my greenhouse in a shady bit under the shelving all winter long every couple weeks i would rough up the surface a bit and poke any seeds i could see back in.. they ahve stayed in my greenhouse the whole time even when it has been hot in there.. they have loved it.... in march time they started to shooting and i just pricked them out into a celluar tray when they got second leaves..

i dont know if this ws just luck this time or i have finally masterd it.. i do not know.. but that is what i will doing again this year.. as well as splittig them.. that i have been told is good too.
